If we switch to the 3-4 Defense

The rumors of Rex Ryan got me to thinking, if we switch to the 3-4 defense, what positions would need to be addressed? Here is what I came up with. We would need to look for a NT, unless Trey Lewis could fill that roll. I know alot of fans might not agree, but I think Jamall Anderson would be a good fit, but John Abraham was traded from NY because they were switching to 3-4. I think we would have to either move him to OLB or trade him.We would have to find Inside Linebackers. Brooking might be able to fill one of those ILB spots, but very questionable. Boley would be good for one of the OLB spots. The FS needs to be addressed no matter what D we run. I am just not sure if we would be able to address all the needs to make the switch, and filll the offensive needs also.

If Rex Ryan comes and changes the "D" to a 34, its possible that Suggs would come along as well.

DE: Anderson

NT: T. Lewis (320lbs)

DE: Coleman, Babineaux

OLB: Suggs

ILB: Brooking

ILB: Boley

OLB: Abraham

Abe left NY because they kept franchising him instead of giving him a good contract, not because of the defense change.

Chris Long is a potential fit. I don't disagree with you on Jamaal Anderson being able to become a 3-4 DE; montavious Stanley has also manned the NT in a 3-4. We are LB thin though. Boley is too small for the 3-4 OLB spot.

If we switch to the 3-4 our first round pick needs to be Vernon Gholston, then our front 7 could be:

DE: Rod Coleman/ Jonathan Babineaux

DT: Trey Lewis/ Red Bryant (big DT, mid round pick)

DE: Jamaal Anderson

OLB: Vernon Gholston

ILB: Keith Brooking

ILB: Michael Boley

OLB: Vernon Gholston

I still think we are better suited for the 4-3 though.

Maybe we are, but maybe its time for some serious and unpopular changes.
