totalbirdbrain
Got tired of the anger and disrespect in Talk About the Falcons.Had to come back to the real pure football forum.Anyway, here is yet another mockAssumptions: We win the coin flip and also are given a 3rd Round Compensatory Pick.Unrestricted Free Agents (Probably won't be re-signed)Chris CrockerDemorrio WilliamsRestricted Free AgentsMichael Boley (1st and 3rd Round Tender)Chauncey Davis (2nd Round Tender)1st RoundPick #3Darren McFadden, Running Back, University of Arkansas2nd RoundPick #6Chris Williams, Offensive Tackle, Vanderbilt University2nd RoundPick #17Barry Richardson, Offensive Tackle, Clemson University3rd RoundPick #5Jonathan Goff, Middle Linebacker, Vanderbilt University3rd RoundPick #33+Marcus Griffin, Free Safety/Strong Safety, University of Texas4th RoundPick #4Jacob Hester, Running Back/Full Back, Louisiana State University5th RoundPick #3Mike McGlynn, Offensive Line, University of Pittsburgh6th RoundPick #6Jason Reda, Place Kicker, University of Illinois7th RoundPick #5Wesley Woodyard, Strong Safety/Outside Linebacker, University of Kentucky7th RoundPick #22Richard Clebert, Nose Tackle, University of South Florida
DrDetecto
Where's the quarterback? It would be excellent IMO if you replaced Richardson with, say, Flacco or Henne. It's pretty good right now though.
totalbirdbrain
Thanks for the comments Doc!My thinking was that given an awesome line, Leftwich, Redman, Harrington,or Shockley could maintain our current passing game. Seems to me,our running game was poor, but when our pass protection was decent, we couldput up some decent numbers passing. In addition, if we keep Byron and/or Joey for the remainder of their contracts, they probably will give us each compensatory picks themselves or become tradebait for a team with an injured QB.If we lose, Demorrio Williams and Chris Crocker, and don't pick up any compensatoryunrestricted free agents, then we would also probably pick up 1-2 picks in the 2009draft. Again, Thanks for the feedback.
hornsmd
I understand where you are going with not drafting a QB. I just disagree. The QBs we have here can keep the ship afloat for a year or two. But we need to draft a QB to develop behind Redman. Henne, Flacco or even a late pick on Josh Johnson would do to develop a QB of the future.
totalbirdbrain
hornsmd, I am not opposed to drafting a future franchise quarterback, especially ifwe lost the coin flips and were picking 5th overall instead of 3rd. I am also anxious tosee Joe Flacco in the East-West Shrine Game and a healthy Chad Henne in the SeniorBowl. I will also be anxious to see the 40 time for Erik Ainge at the combine. He lookedgood in his last two games, except for the Interception he gave up for the touchdownagainst LSU in the SEC Championship game.My only consideration for drafting quarterback is:Are they better than what we have or if there is a really good chance that they will bebetter after a year in the league. As I mentioned above, I appreciate your feedback. hornsmd
I understand the total postion for the franchise. This is what I would like to see. (in a previous with explanations)Trade our first down into 9-13 range for a 1st and a 2nd this year and 2nd/3rd next year.1 Kenny Phillips- S2a Chad Henne- QB2b Chris Williams- OT2c Kevin Smith- RB3a Anthony Collins- OT3b Ben Moffit- LB4 Pat Sims- DT5 Hermon Johnson- OG6 Alexis Serna- K7 Josh Thompson- DT7b Jayson Foster- KR/WRWe both agree that building both lines should be a priority. However, your example is reasonable. The best we could do for trading down to #9 would be an additional second rounder. Phillips is a future star FS.....I am convinced of that.I am not a Henne fan, but then again, I wasn't a Tom Brady fan either.Chris Williams is a solid pick for a need position.Kevin Smith would be a coup for us in the second round. Although I like Collins, I don't think that we need another OT. I would look at OG or OC here.Moffit is the sort of player that every team needs....gritty.I don't know Sims, but I read that he was a disappointment this season. Tell me about him. I never heard of Hermon Johnson. All in all a good mock, even if you included a trade down.
grmnfootballer
I would love to get Jacob Hester as a late round pick. I think he is going to be a stud in the NFL. He may not be as flashy as some of the other backs, but he runs hard, never fumbles, and just does not give up on any run. I absolutely want this guy on our team. He's the kind of hard nosed player that we need to punch some people in the mouth.
scott24falcs
I tend to agree with you that we need to get our OL going in the right direction, but IMO there's no way we don't take a QB in the draft. The rest of the draft looks good though. I'm not sure we need to take Hester, especially that early. With McFadden, Norwood, Snelling, and Mughelli, I don't really see much of a need for him. But, he is a really good player, and very versatile, so I wouldn't be too upset with that pick. Pretty good job.
