The Onion wouldn't even make something like this up

In an effort to get fans excited about the Falcons again after being burned by a college coach who left the Falcons in the middle of the season to take the "prestigious", lower paying Arkansas job, the Falcons seem intent on hiring another college coach. Not just any college coach mind you, but one that has already failed miserably in the NFL: Pete Carroll.

This is too absurd to be fiction or a joke. Not only a college coach, but a college coach from the west coast (like anyone in Georgia follows west coach football, Arthur, in case you missed the memo, most Georgians think USC stands for University of South Carolina.)

Nobody would believe it.

Earth to Arthur Blank. Hiring ANOTHER college coach won't spark interest or get people excited about the Falcons again. It will do just the opposite. Quite frankly, if the Falcons hire another college coach, the only interest it will spark in me is more interest in my Sunday afternoon golf game, and less interest in the Falcons (and this comes from an Atlanta native that has seen EVERY Falcons season.)

Who cares if a coach "sparks interest"? That exactly the problem with most Falcon fans. I just want a coach to come in and straighten out our team, I could care less if it "sparks interest" or "gets people excited". I just want a solid coach.

Exactly. Just about any headcoach is going to "spark interest", for me at least. And to say that people from Georgia don't follow West Coast football is absurd. I follow college football as a whole, it makes no difference where the team is from. USC is on television just about every week during the season. A true football fan knows who Pete Carroll is and it has nothing to do with geography.

Hiring Carroll would definitely spark my interest. Actually, it'd blow my mind. If AB could pull it off, which I highly doubt he can, he'd be a miracle worker - aside from being broke himself. I just can't fathom why anyone would want such a headache as our franchise has become, if you have the best job in college sports.

Not going to happen guys

the AJC Wednesday, "As Pete told our beat reporters last Wednesday, he understands that his name is going to come up for NFL jobs, as it has in each of his past years here, but that he was not going to comment about NFL openings because it would just lead to speculation. There's nothing going on, no reason to even talk about it."

The e-mail continued, "Pete is out of the office on vacation this week, but he reiterated that to me this morning on the phone."

Looks like ESPN sux again with rumors and speculation

When was that? Because ESPN's sources are reporting Carroll is interested and will speak to Arthur Blank on the phone Wednesday, I'm assuming that might be to schedule a formal interview... Who knows... I don't know what to make of this right now. Carroll is probably the most accomplished of the coaches we are hiring, but I'd be scared of him trying to jump ship and go back to the college ranks if things don't go well his first year.

looks similar to the Jim Mora record in Atlanta, except Mora went got to the 8-8 much quicker (and was escorted out after his 3rd year, not his 4th as was Carrol).

For what it's worth, Robert Kraft (one of the best owners in the NFL), said that one of the hardest decisions he had to make as an owner was firing Carroll and that some of the reasons he was fired weren't really his fault... For what it's worth....
