Rookie seasons:

2007

1 #4 Gaines Adams GS 8, 38 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 Pdef

1 #8 Jamaal Anderson GS 16, 30 tackles, 0 sacks, 3 Pdef

2006

1 #1 Mario Williams GS 16, 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 3 Pdef

2003

1 #9 Kevin Williams GS 16, 51 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 3 Pdef, 1 INT

2002

1 #2 Julius Peppers GS 12, 35 tackles, 12 sacks, 4 Pdef, 1 INT

(1 #11 Dwight Freeney GS 8, 41 tackles, 13 sacks, 1 Pdef )

2001

1 #4 Justin Smith GS 11, 53 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 3 Pdef, 2 INT

1 #7 Andre Carter GS 15, 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 Pdef

1 #10 Jamal Reynolds GS 0, 4 tackles, 2 sacks (out of the league after 3 seasons...)

2000

1 #1 Courtney Brown GS 16, 4.5 sacks (tackles not available)

Even Jamal Reynolds, who was the worst top10 DE of the decade, had 2 sacks in his rookie season...

Jamaal has no sacks and a horrible tackles/GS ratio (one of the lowest tackles total with the highest GS number).

And for the ones who believe he will be great someday, here are the stats from the rookie seasons of the best DEs in 2007

1 Jared Allen KC GS 10, 31 tackles, 9.0 sacks

2 Patrick Kerney SEA GS 2, 2.5 sacks

3 Mario Williams HOU GS 16, 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 3 Pdef

4 Osi Umenyiora NYG GS 1, 20 tackles, 1 sack

5 Trent Cole PHI DE GS 7, 46 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 2 Pdef

6 Elvis Dumervil DEN GS 0, 17 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 1 pdef

7 Aaron Kampman GB GS 6, 24 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 2 pdef

8 Kyle Vanden Bosch TEN GS 3, 13 tackles, 0.5 sacks

9 Jason Taylor MIA GS 11, 5 sacks

10 Andre Carter WAS GS 15, 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 Pdef

11 John Abraham ATL GS 0, 4.5 sacks

It's hard to find another DE starting 16 games with no sacks and just 30 tackles and....

....playing with someone like Abraham at RE......

Are you kidding? Courtney Brown was the #1 overall pick, and only had 19 sacks in his career.

He is a much bigger bust than Anderson...

Since Anderson has played just ONE season we can just compare the stats from the rookie seasons

Courtney Brown had a better rookie season. Period.

The season's over, we're still in the hunt for a GM and a HC and you're still chirping on about a rookie DE and his drafting position?

Some of you all's priorities are screwed up.

Question 1: why did you click on the topic?

Question 2: aren't you tired of this "GM and HC hunt"?

Question 3: why don't you keep reading hunt-related topics?

OK, OK, OK! We dont need a Jamaal Anderson sucks thread every day! Yes he was bad this year, GET OVER IT! We need to support the team and have faith that the players will get better. He had a bad year, yeah, but who hasnt? Every player has a bad year, its just something that happens. Hopefully Jamaal works hard this offseason and improves, thats all we can ask for. Untill then STOP with the Jamaal Anderson sucks threads!

Its actually sad that you spent the little time you did compiling all these stats to prove a useless and negative point... HEY! lets all waste our time arguing about the mistakes of an irreversable decision that is almost a year old now... Face it the guy plays for the Falcons now, if your a fan of the Falcons try being a fan and not a negative ahole.

What a waste of time this point is to even argue...

I'd take Anderson over paying Courtney Brown #1 pick money anyday.

Fact is people have gotten to where they look for a reason to call a Falcons rookies a bust. Well, that's understandable with the history of drafting by this team, but it's only been one season for Anderson. People were calling Roddy White and Patrick Kerney Busts at one time too.

Yes, you are right

I should spend some time compiling stats to prove positive points about our team....

Wow, well said.

If you're gonna waste time here you might as well be positive, people! This is supposed to be an entertaining way of wasting time! :P

Wrong answer

Anthony Weaver 2007: GS 13, 41 tackles 0 sack (total games: 15)

His rookie season (2002)

GS 16, 29 tackles 3.5 sacks, 3 Pdef

Something better than anderson.

But you are right

This is the kind of player Jamaal could be in the future (15 sacks/6 seasons)

Anthony Weaver

How many good LEs have 30 tackles in 16 games?

way to step up and answer the question.

LE

2 Patrick Kerney SEA GS 2, 2.5 sacks

7 Aaron Kampman GB GS 6, 24 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 2 pdef

8 Kyle Vanden Bosch TEN GS 3, 13 tackles, 0.5 sacks

3 Mario Williams HOU GS 16, 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 3 Pdef

4 Osi Umenyiora NYG GS 1, 20 tackles, 1 sack

10 Andre Carter WAS GS 15, 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 Pdef

11 John Abraham ATL GS 0, 4.5 sacks

13 Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila

And we have some more LEs at

12 Justin Tuck

14 Adewale Ogunleye

15 Michael Strahan

6 LEs and 9 REs among the top 15 DE (sacks)

None of them had a worse rookie season than Anderson

So what?

yes...it appears that a couple of them got a half sack more........wow!

the so what part has to do with LEs being compared with REs........in most cases from what I have seen, RDE's will usually have more sacks than the LDEs. The LDEs are usually in the QB's line of vision which allows the QB to get rid of the ball or run away. It's the RDEs who usually get the sacks because they are coming in from the blind side......and that's why Left O Tackle is such an important position.
