3 Key Sugar Bowl Moments

Published on: 01/02/08

Here's what led to Georgia's extra-sweet Sugar Bowl victory:

1 Hawaii seemed to have shaken its early jitters and had reached the Georgia 21 when receiver Jason Rivers was called for a personal foul for a late hit. The penalty backed up the Warriors to the 31 and they were forced to settle for a field goal.

2. Georgia took over at Hawaii's 42 after Prince Miller's interception, and the Dogs struck with a big gainer on a screen to Kris Durham (left). Hawaii's Amani Purcell yanked the ball loose and Hawaii recovered, but the ball was ruled out of bounds. Georgia retained possession at the 11 and scored on the next play for a 24-3 lead.

3. Georgia took care of any notion of a Hawaii comeback midway through the third quarter when end Marcus Howard nailed QB Colt Brennan at Hawaii's 2 and recovered his own forced fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, making it 31-3.
