etherdome
First you hire a GM, then the GM hires the HC. That is the normal way to run things and it is the way AB said he would do it. Now, we keep hearing about the Falcons getting permission to interview HC's without their future GM. Do we already have a GM? If so, why has he not been announced? Could AB be doing some shady dealings behind closed doors? None of this makes any sense.

There's no hope for this franchise. AB just doesn't get it.
thenfl
Blank is in over his head. He has been embarrassed how many times now since April? He does need something to go well but he has to put it in the hands of others.I think hes trying to get 1 slot filled just to have a reason for the other to want to come to ATL. To look at it another way, what HC candidate would want to come to an organization without a GM in place. There is too much uncertantity in not knowing who your bosses is going to be. A HC would want to work with a GM that shares similar approach and philosophy.
rogueleadersf
We must have a new GM already and we're just waiting to announce, otherwise, this makes no sense.
ATLBear
Actually, Blank is doing the only thing he can do. This is the only week you can interview coaches and GM candidates on playoff teams. Otherwise, you have to wait until they are eliminated. Therefore, he obviously wants to make a decision soon, so he'll interview those playoff team candidates now, follow up with other candidates, and reach his conclusions. NFL personnel changes, both coaching and management, is a very regulated process.

None of this makes any sense. It really makes a lot of sense when you understand that Blank has been a LOT more of a hands on owner than has been let on in the media. He has tied McKay's hands on more than one occasion. He has forced the signing of some bad free agents and he has overridden the majority pick in the draft room. He has also forced the HC into starting players & dressing out players whom the HC has not wanted to.Blank is going to hire a coach, it's not going to be the GM. Blank will hire a GM that he can either walk over of play like a puppet on a string.

The point of this thread is to discuss what is quite possibly the most important decision of this franchise. If your theory that a GM is already in play, then why hasn't he been announced? What is the advantage to announcing a GM and HC hiring at the same time? You seem to have uncommon wisdom.....enlighten us.
