Thanks for looking up the stats 37Ice.

I'm not going to argue that Marty isn't a very good coach, because he is. His record speaks for itself.

HOWEVER, the thing that frustrates fans of Marty's teams are also included in those stats you posted.

Did you notice all that his last 5 playoff appearances ended in first round losses?

Did you also notice that his last 4 playoff teams had records of 13-3, 13-3, 12-4 and 14-2?

All of those teams had home field advantage, and they all lost home games in the first round.

Are you starting to see why fans that root for Marty's teams pull their hair out?

If you want your team to stop sucking... Marty's your guy.

If you want to win in the playoffs, not so much.

And the last year he coached, SD and Marty were practically belittled (at least on all the sports talk shows in Cali before the season started) as being by far the worst OL ever assembled. Then they preceded to win like 13 or 14 games.

You didn't hear much about how bad their OL was again after about week 3.

we need a sure thing right now, wins and leadership

THE DRIVE: Schottenheimer's first and possibly biggest of his many chokes. He's never even made it to the Super Bowl.

Yes, his regular season record is good after the numerous Braves chokes, I've had enough of playoff chokes, I would rather endure another season like this one rather than 4 seasons of losing in a championship game.

He's also old, and would not be around for long and we would be looking for another coach soon afterwards. No thanks.

You gotta be kidding me-you would rather endure another season like this rather than 4 seasons of losing in a championship game!! You are sick puppy. At least if you're getting to championship game you have a chance to win: 3-13 aint gonna get you a chance to do anything. He's 64, that's not old-but I would like to see him here and bring young buck DC or OC to prepare to take over when he did retire. Sounds like a plan.

I don't care about chances, I care about results. I expected the Chargers to lose in the playoffs and they did. What I'm saying is that I don't put any more hope in a Super Bowl apperance, let alone a win behind a Schottenheimer team, than I do with what we have this season, the only difference is wins during the season. Maybe you would be happy with lots of regular season winning followed by an automatic playoff choke, but the end result is the same after losing like clockwork in the playoffs or finish 3-13.

The fact that Marty has been able to turn teams around tells me that it can, be done, not that he's the only one. I want to see the team finish the post season with a win.

I wish i could look into it, but I remember seeing a program about Marty and how his teams always finish high in turnover diff and also have low penalty numbers, and its year after year...

something about his teams , he always has low turnovers on offense, and high on defense, and its been pretty consistent, and its something he drills over and over again

also, he might have problems with GM's

but hes had as players.....

Kosar, Montana, Marcus Allen, Derek Thomas, Neil Smith

Brees, LT, Darrell Green

havent heard too many complaints from them, there are some hall of famers on that list, and pro bowl players

He never won a playoff game.

That can't be right.

CLE 1986 12 4 0 .750 1st in AFC Central 1 1 .500 Lost to Denver in AFC Championship.

CLE 1987 10 5 0 .667 1st in AFC Central 1 1 .500 Lost to Denver in AFC Championship.

Those two seasons alone he was in the AFC Championship game, and you have to have won at least one playoff game to make it that far, don't you?

and us with a franchise that hasnt had back to back winning seasons, and we are worrying about a coach that hasnt won a superbowl and doesnt win when he gets to the playoffs, but has 2 losing seasons in 21 years,

makes as much sense as Rich McKay's draft day strategy
