Looking More Like Singletary, Garrett, and Caldwell...

Recommended Posts

Well, as I mentioned in an earlier topic. Cowher said no....This is what Chris Mort said earlier today..

"The Falcons owner Authur Blank said hes not going to pursue ligations again Bobby Petrino, saying that it is time to move on, and move on the falcons did. Making direct contact with Bill Cowher the former Steelers coach, who told them privately what he has said publicly. Hes not coaching in 2008 hes sticking with his plans of a 2 year sabbatical before he'll consider a reentry into the league. Bill Pacells is also adamant that he is not coaching again. Steve Marriuci (sp?) name has been discussed. And Marty Shoteinhiemer(sp?) could only be enticed for an ideal situation. Falcons GM and President Rich Mckay is willing to surrender his personnel control something he offered when he tried to get Jimmy Johnson to coach the Buccaneers. The Bucs ended up hiring a coach with no prior coaching experience Tony Dungy...worked out okay. That brings the falcons to NFL assistants like Mike Singletary of the 49ers Jim Caldwell of the Colts and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett of the Cowboys."

With that said...its looking more and more like we'll be getting an OC, DC, or Assistant HC...thats what its looking like for now...This should get interesting. Ive heard a bit about this Jason Garrett guy and its impressive but Im still on the Singletary wagon because of the leadership and his ability to communicate with the players. At least we know that our FO is heading in the right direction. Calling Cowher SHOULD have been the first step anyway. So at least their doing the right thing so far...right? I hope McKay doesn't mess this up! Or anyone for that matter.

If what Mort said is true, then McKay is not being honest with the public.

McKay flat out said that he was getting calls from some good prospect, yet the note that you posted doesn't translate to that; furthermore,

McKay may not be the best GM in football, but he doesn't strike me as a liar. Besides, why would anyone say yes on the first offer.

Yeah, but Shottenheimer's record in the playoffs sux. He's always lost the big game, and we, fickle Falcons fans that we are, would be wanting to run him outta town within three years. (Of course it'd be nice to be making the playoffs every year for a while!) Better to go after the next Tony Dungy, whether it's Singletary or somebody else.

Go Mooch. He is a WCO master. Besides, the Falcons got him fired after we destroyed the Lions on that Thanksgiving game. We should make it up to him by giving him the job.

Yeah, well you might consider that Mooch was severely outcoached by JIM MORA in that game. After Sam Delgadwhatever and the Packers ran all over us the week before, everyone in the league knew we couldn't stop the run. Except Mooch obviously. Their first play is a draw that gashes us for 20 yards. Then he proceeds to throw it 50 times and only run it about 10 more. He DESERVED to be fired after that coaching job.

JUST SAY NO to Mooch and the WCO.

Just say no to Mooch.

PLEASE say no to Garrett. Everything looks perfect in Dallas right now, and everyone there looks like a genius. All Garrett did was carry the clipboard for Aikman. Hire someone with more coaching experience - preferable HC experience.

It took Bill Cowher 15 years to win the big one after being left with ALL of the pieces when Knoll actually set them up years before Cowher.

Not Cowher, MIKE MIKE MIKE!

Two coaches who were talked about last offseason, but have not had much mention on the boards this year are Rob Ryan and Russ Grimm. I think both could become excellent coaches and should be considered with Singletary, Garrett, & Caldwell.

Two other coaches that I like, that have both been off the radar screen for a couple of years are Mike Heimerdinger (Asst. HC in Denver, very good OC) and Ted Cottrell (DC in San Diego). Both of these 2 guys are long overdue for opportunities as HC's.
