TheDirtyWordII
They've had 2 shots to get it right.Mora: At first, he seemed like a breath of fresh air. He was engaging, dynamic, energetic and charismatic. The Falcons got off to a hot start underneath him, but he got comfortable in his britches which in turn infiltrated his team. When he went to crack the whip, he found it had no snap. When his charisma turned into pining for a different job, he lost all credibility with the Falcons. What did Mora In: Inexperience and losing sight of his primary rolePetrino: The anti-Mora. Thought of very highly as an offenisve schemer and genius, and able to get the most out of those assets. Extremely dedicated to the profession of X's & O's, but as it turned out a horrible communicator and even worse motivator. His 'by the night escape' of Atlanta and ensuing 'leave-behinds' will be the stuff of coward legend for years. What did Petrino In: Inability to communicate and relate to the professional athleteWhile these are brief description of the tenures of these two coaches, what they do represent are the choices made by Rich McKay and Arthur Blank to helm this franchise on the field. While almost impossible to believe, they did worse the second time around. At least with Mora you could argue that for awhile, he seemed like the right fit. Petrino evidently clashed with the nature of the position and the role from Day 1. In one sense they can go the low risk, high cost route of a Cowher or Schottenheimer which while capable choices are 1) no brainers and 2) no lock to want to be here. But should those options decline, there is no slam dunk out there and I worry that in 3 weeks, we find out that we've hired Marty Mornhenweig.I'm worried about this process. Guest Gritz
Honestly I'm very worried. This franchise and its fans have been battered about this year like we never have been before. We can't afford to get it wrong again. We're very very close to becoming insignificant when any discussion of the NFL is started.
Uncle Bingo
I finally will get off my snide, I have been so pizzed about BP for the last2 days i could not even muster a word.I agree that the coaching decisions obviously have not panned out.In lieu of that I am very nervous about the next hire because it is a CRITICALhire. My vote is for either Singletary(he will def motivate, but I am not sure abouthim from an x's o's perspective)Or stay in house and hire Zimmer who may be ready for the next step and theD will atleast be on page from the get go. falcon_loco
ya know maybe this time theyve learned their lesson. its time for a proven head coach
ukfalc
Blank and McKay are looking to establish continuity at the coaching position -they will want someone who will stay for the long haul, not a quick short term fix.Mora was a surpise selection in2004, and we've tried a college coach and failed. I have a feeling that we will look for young(ish) HC with proven experience at this level (like Bill Cowher) or a highly touted co-ordinator (singletary or one of the Ryans). My gut feeling is that we will make a more predicatble (and possibly safer) selection this time.

But we will need a Great OC to fix our offence. If Hue shows promise over the next 3 games maybe we could keep him. He has helped our WR's alot already. Boman
i will think that blank and mckay are total dumb ***** if we pick a head coach that is not proven. if he isnt proven he better stay for a long time and win. i am skeptical about the whole situation though. i am worried we may pick another coaching ##### like petrino. The_ ATL
I'm a fan and like most fans "what have you done for me lately" pops into my head.I have ZERO confidence that the right person will be chosen.

theDIRTYcode
Very freaking worried if we don't go with someone proven(like Marty or Cowher). It needs to be more than Blank and McKay this time around. They need to bring in someone with extensive experience in back ground checks, and character evaluation this time around. 0-2 means they need help with this. UGA Homers LOVE Van Gomer
Believe it or not I feel a little better about it because Vick isn't here. Follow me for a minute.Since Blank has bought the franchise quite a few of the moves he has made has been done with a "How will this benefit/effect Mike?" thought process behind it. Especially when it comes to coaching decisions.Mora - Let's not forget one thing Mora had that others did not during the interview. He was going to bring an offensive coordinator with him that developed Jeff Garcia into a Pro Bowl talent. The OC also coached Steve Young. "Imagine what he could do with Vick."Petrino - Vick was healthy all year but his play was eratic at times and NOW we know about his last one in first one out ethic and we finished 7-9. So Blank hires an offensive guru so he could come in here and create a dynamic offense and "Imagine what he could do with Vick."So now instead of worrying how a coaching change would benefit ONE SPECIFIC player maybe now Blank and McKay can focus on a coach that would benefit the entire team.Remember that Blank is the one that ultimately decided who he wanted to be the coach of his team and his favorite player. Hopefully now that Vick is out of the picture he will get what the TEAM needs.
dan minnich
i really believe blank will be hand picking the next coach of the falcons. i think he will let rich have a very small amount of input i believe. the first 2 coaches that rich have hired have not worked out and even blank was unsure about bobby at first. Tandy Gossett
More confident than last year ... you learn from your mistakes ... and Mr.Blank would not be the business man he is if he didn't do just that ... he let McKay make the call last year ... I'm sure he will be the one with the decision this year ... M.Singletary I believe will be the man ...

Peyton
Singletary may turn out to be a great Head Coach. Bill Cowher has already proven he is great Head Coach. Blank and McKay have to make a strong play for him before they consider anybody else.
ne0ven0m
given the results of mora and petrino, i think our higher ups will be very cautious about the next guy. this leads me to think he at least he'll be experienced and he won't quit. Blank and McKay have to make a strong play for him before they consider anybody else.I think they will make a play for Cowher, and if unsuccessful, they will tap Singletary. They want a guy that is going to instill discipline, and there are none whom are available that are better than those two.

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS BLANK AND McKAY ARE NOT WHAT THEY'VE BEEN CRACKED UP TO BE. WHERE WAS ALL THIS CONTINUITY WHEN THEY GOT THE LAST GUY? WASN'T MORA YOUNG ENOUGH FOR THESE GUYS? SINGLETARY WAS OUT THERE WHEN THEY GOT BOTH THESE GUYS, MORA AND BOBBY P. DO YOU SEE MY ANGLE. THESE GUYS ARE GOING IN CIRCLES. AND I REALLY DOUBT IF BLANK WILL OPEN THE FALUT FOR COWER, CAUSE THATS WHAT IT WILL TAKE, OR GIVE HIM ENOUGH POWER ....... THE KIND THAT McKAY HAS!
