avatar30
Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is in Durham, North Carolina where he is scheduled to interview for the head coaching vacancy at Duke University.Cutcliffe was head coach at Ole Miss from 1999-2004 where he compiled a 44-29 record including an impressive 4-1 bowl record. Publicly, Cutcliffe has said he was not pursuing any head coaching jobs, but privately he has expressed the desire to have another shot at being a head coach if the right position became available. Earlier this week, Vanderbilt head coach Bobby Johnson interviewed for the job at Duke and later pulled his name out of the running after getting what he wanted at Vanderbilt in terms of a promise for facility upgrades in Nashville. Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton has said he would do what he could to keep Cutcliffe at Tennessee. Cutcliffe has not returned phone calls or messages tonight declining comment on his interest at Duke. This past season, the Tennessee offense averaged 30 points a game, had a 3,000 yard passer, a 1,000 yard rusher, and a 1,000 yard receiver under Cutcliffe. Ton80Kid
I don't think he'll go to Duke...just no upside there for him. If he leaves UT, it'll be for a big time coaching gig...something like LSU if Miles leaves.

Maybe he sees Duke as a challenge and wants to turn that program around.

A team like lsu wouldn't hire cutcliffe.. not hire profile enough for them.
Headshot
Cutcliffe is ready for the big time. Being the head coach at Duke would be a step DOWN from being the offensive coordinator at Tennessee.Cutcliffe was run out of Ole Miss because that program is obviously filled with idiots. He had no time to build that program up. I think he wants to stay in the SEC anyways.

If spurrier can do it, it can be done by the right coach. also he wouldn't be interviewing if he didn't want the job.. he wants one more chance and this could be it.. so many fans don't see the true picture of these jobs..
