eraclansing
Because he was a good player and he is intense. Also because he is an african american coach and this matters to some people on the board. Good reasoning, huh?

SoCalFalconFan
Not every coach that hasn't been a Head Coach in his past can be classified as an "experiment". When your peers are raving about you at every single stop along your career path, and those peers all have hundreds of years of NFL Head Coaching experience combined, one can be pretty confident that the person is 'equipped' for the job. Top that off with a HOF induction and a more-than-prolific NFL career as a player... it's a pretty huge no-brainer. If one simply would do some research on their own merit, and read things for themselves, they can pretty much see these things in black and white. Of course, there are the intangibles. And no one can be absolutely confident of ANYONE coming in here and making the Falcons Superbowl contenders. Cowher could come in here and flop miserably. As could Schott, or anyone else for that matter. Nothing is a given in the NFL.
UGA Homers LOVE Van Gomer
Being an NFL Hall of Fame linebacker doesn't hurt. However it would be better if San Fran didn't suck this year but Willis is having a monster year...

Just because a coach is coaching in the nfl (OC, DC, so on) does not mean they will do great as a head coach.Cam Cameron...remember when everybody wanted him?Mike Singletary will be a good coach one day, no doubt about that.I believe the falcons will hit up Bill Cowher to get him to coach here which is a 50/50 but if nobody else is good enough then Singletary would get the job and another Experiment will happen. SoCalFalconFan
Dr John Zoidberg (12/12/2007)Being an NFL Hall of Fame linebacker doesn't hurt. However it would be better if San Fran didn't suck this year but Willis is having a monster year...Right, well you have to know what to look at to make a judgement on Singletary's body of work. You're sniffing in the right direction. Willis has had a monster year, and he will be the first to point to Singletary as the reason. Just as Ray Lewis and Co. did when they were under his tutelage.EDIT* ... And let me add that the Ray Lewis' of this world don't divvy out respect very easily. And Singletary had his full respect and attention when he was in Baltimore.
GoBucsGo
I think Cowher would be an excellent choice. The guy is passionate.....lots of NFL experiance and is a motivator. He would be a great catch...IMHO.

Just as Ray Lewis and Co. did when they were under his tutelage.HC was brought in to turn our WR into CJ and that didn't work so how will singletary gonna turn our LBs into ray lewis or willis?Well, first of all, you're wrong, if I understand your broken English correctly. Petrino wasn't brought here to turn our WR's into CJ. He was brought here to install his alleged "high powered offense" and coach the team. Hue Jackson was brought in to work with the offense, and to put an even closer perspective on the subject, Paul Petrino is the WR's Coach. So, if you want to put a magnifying glass over the WR's and their success, or lack thereof, then you should point it in the direction of the very unproven, college assistant-brother-of-the-ex-HC. Second, I'm not suggesting that Singletary will turn the Falcons LB's into other players. That's just an unrealistic way of looking at it. What Singletary would bring to this team is chapter upon chapter of NFL playing experience. Experience that was achieved at a very high level of success, at that. He would bring with him an automatic respect that no other coaching candidate that's out there right now could garner, and that is because of the carer that he had. Being a Hall-Of-Famer, all on it's own merit, demands instant respect of the players your are teaching. He is proven in that regard. Obviously, Mike Singletary is a defensive mind. He would have to have some proven Coordinators at his side. More specifically, he would really need an offensive/Asst. HC counterpart. But that is the case with almost every candidate out there. They all have their areas of expertise. Yet, they all would need an expert Coordinator that could head up the other main area of the game, i.e., offense or defense. But, hey, that's just my .02 cents' worth.
