Jay Glazer on Petrino

Recommended Posts

Some key points:

Said he spoke with the Falcons assistants who informed Glazer that Petrino called them into a meeting at 5 o'clock yesterday that literally lasted 10 seconds. Said he quit and was taking the ARK job. Nothing else. Assitants were stunned. Glazer went on and called Petrino a slime ball because leaving like this effects the assistants and their families he brought in tremendously. They were left hanging.

Said that Petrino was leaving as early as Monday, Blank went balistic and Petrino then changed his mind and was staying. Then changed his mind again Monday.

Said he talked to many of the players who were gathered at a local bar and having a "bash Petrino" session. Said John Abraham said that they were actually starting to buy into Petrino's system and thought they could be a winner next season.

****. see, that's the thing i thought about first (the assistant coaches). he basically shtted on them. when i read tony dungy's books, one of the things that was eye opening was the fact that i never before took into account the impacts of coaching changes on the assistants. and he'd been in a lot of situations over the years, and one of the reasons that many coaches leave is because of how their assistants are being treated.

wow. dude took 10 secs to tell them, "i'm out. peace". granted, Hue kinda sorta has OC under his belt, now. but in reality, he has a three game audition. zimmer could have been a head coaching prospect (and may be a good HC prospect for us -- I don't know).

i was trying to think of a way in which petrino wasn't being a slime in this. perhaps he thought that by cutting the b.s. and bouncing early he was giving these dudes a shot. but to announce it with no deliberation like that? (granted, grain of salt taken, this is second and third hand info from a reporter). if its true, that's rotten.
