Peeps, Hue Jackson. That being said, this can't be any worse than how this season started, it is virtually impossible to go anywhere but up at this point.

Will be interesting to see if it's Hue or Zimmer that takes over as HC. Just my guess it'll be Zimmer as our interim HC. I like Hue, but Zimmer has been in the mix for HC jobs the last couple years so I think he'll be given the opportunity to show what he's got....although he may not want it right now.

Zimmer or Jackson will be the interim HC... but it's not likely that either will be kept on as the HC going forward. Leading candidates according to a press release from the Falcons are Mike Singletary, Jason Garrett, Rex Ryan, and Jim Schwartz.

Hopefully it will be Singletary and Zimmer will be asked to stay on as defensive coordinator. I'm not sure about Hue Jackson as an OC... but if they feel he would be suitable, then I'd be fine with it... I just don't know much about him outside of the fact that he groomed Chad Johnson and TJ Whosyamomma into a terrific receiver duo.

I'd personally like to see Ryan, but that's just me. Biggest question right now I guess is offensive or defensive specialist? My guess is offensive & keep Zimmer since the defense is actually ok right now (problems there yes, but much better shape than the O). Bring in an offensive guy who can really build an offense like he wants cause there really isn't anyone on O that has to stay.

i want zimmer as the HC. he can make the transition to 2009 as smooth as possible, and would keep the defensive scheme the same at least, and i think he could continue calling plays because he has done a great job with the defense this year. and if he so chose, he could keep hue here and keep the same offensive scheme that petrino wanted to run, that would be best for us in my opinion, because truth be told i liked the direction the team was going as far as the power running game and big play passing game with a run stopping defense that put pressure on the qb no matter what it took.

jmo.

The interesting aspect of those four names is that three of them are defensive guys. Garrett is the only offensive coordinator listed. Similarly, Cowher is a defensive coach. 80% of the names we have out there right now focus on that side of the ball. It sounds like we want to accentuate the team's strength while trying to scrape up enough offense to win. At least, that's true if these names are to be believed.

Ranking them, I would say it's:

1) Cowher -- we have to take a run at him even though I expect him to eventually say no.

2) Ryan

3) Singletary

4) Schwartz

5) Garrett

And given that I like Garrett a lot, I see this as a very strong list. I'm a little disappointed Russ Grimm isn't on there, though. If we want to fix the offensive line, he's the guy to do it.

The FO definitely needs to see if Cowher is interested(highly doubtful, but money talks...) and if not, i would like to see another defensive minded coach brought in, or Zimmer to take the reigns... The offense is years away from doing anything, the defense becoming a great unit is a few pieces away...

I want something to cheer for! Having mediocrity on both sides of the ball is not only boring, but hopeless as well...

exactly, if we can get cowher, great! we have a proven head coach that is loyal, and blank would be loyal to him. if we cant, then just promote zimmer and let him call the defensive plays.

The only thing I don't like about Zimmer so far is how often he calls for soft coverage with the DB's. He puts Hall 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and Houston up for bump and run... and we get burned by slants and curls all night long.

And it's painfully clear that we need a new MLB. Brooking is no slouch... but we need a playmaker in the middle.

The soft coverage is because otherwise we have no pass rush to threaten quarterbacks and prevent them from going deep every play. At least it gives the defensive backs a chance to stop every team we face from putting up four touchdowns through the air, though with no pass rush and such mediocre coverage in the middle of the field (Brooking and Demo are wastes of space and the safety help has been sketchy at best) we're stil getting eaten up. Zimmer's doing all he can with limited talent and numerous injuries to keep the team in games, though of course as we have seen throughout the season it doesn't mean much when the offense will put the defense back on the field pretty quickly.

As far as the defense goes, it's pretty much been the only part of this team that isn't Norwood or Roddy White that we can take any pride/hope in... but what's aggravating is how weak our d-line has been. We simply get no consistent pressure. Abe is constantly doubled and it's ridiculous to me that he even has the numbers that he does have. Jamaal hasn't performed anywhere close to what was expected, but he shows some promise... and he's definitely getting those reps in and getting experience.

We just need some real interior presence to make things a little easier for Abe and Jamaal, which will in turn open up things for the LBs and create opportunities for our DBs. I'm very much starting to want Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis the same way I wanted Amobi Okoye last year.

If we could land Dorsey/Ellis and then Jonathan Goff at MLB, we could have a great base to build on with our D. Houston is really getting picked on, but I love his speed and physicality... his technique will come along with experience.

Our offense is in such disarray that I think too much time spent on it in this draft could be a waste. We need to pick up at least one very good OT prospect and look to try and bring in Shannon Tevaga or Jordan Grimes at RG if Starks doesn't materialize for us.
