how to fix the atlanta falcons

Recommended Posts

okay, i have been a falcons fan for 20 years now & through the ups and downs (mostly downs) i have remained a die hard fan and loyal supporter. now, i what i can only describe as my franchises' darkest hour, i need to vent, suggest, and demand some things that need to be said. first off, i will shed no tears for booby petrino leaving(no this is not a type o). i don't think he would have stood a chance even with vick as his qb. so now where so we go? here is my blueprint for the next few years. we need to build around a core of key young players and nfl veterans. jerious norwood is a perfect replacement for the great warrick dunn, keep him whatever it takes. roddy white has shown he belongs and i love laurent robinson to develop into the number 2 we need. i'm not giving up on jenkins, but he needs more consistency. the o line needs work, use the draft to find that stud o lineman. do not, i repeat, do not draft a quarterback with a top 10 pick. there is no franchise 10 year starter in the draft. you need to address the quarterback issue, but not with the draft. here it is, because the free agent market for quarterbacks isn't that great this year, i you'll be overpaying for the services of a derrick anderson or such. you need to make a trade. i'll throw this out there....mcnabb. donovan starts, with either joey or redman as the back up, and still like dj shockley if given an opportunity. alge still gets it done but maybe find a backup in the draft to take over in a couple of years. there's your offense. defensively on paper we look good, but every above average offense has torn us apart this year. there are a couple key guys we need to keep. brooking, hall and boley are no brainers. if abraham is still getting it done, he can bring some leadership during this process, but thats only if he can still get it done. houston shows signs to be a great secondary guy if he works on playing zone coverage.i still haven't figured out why jimmy williams hasn't played a bigger role in the defense, but he should. that is a great core nucleus to work with. build with the draft and free agency, but i don't think this team needs to go into tear down, rebuilding mode. when this season is over, as will all the mike vick talk, we can focus on a whole season of falcons football with the talk being about players on the field. so now there is only on issue left. the head coach. i think arthur blank has been savior to my organization and watching his passion for the game and this team has excited me since he took over. i think rich mckay is a gm that can make the moves and devise a big picture plan that can bring my team to the top of the nfc and win a title. being a guy that loved what jim mora jr brought to this team, i'm still a little confused why he was on such a short leash. so if that's not the way we needed to go, whats wrong with the opposite. i'm think bill cohwer maybe. just throwing it out there. the falcons have a model for success if you just look. the 98 team that went to the super bowl was team, not several superstars, but a team. thats what we need. i live for falcons football and all i want is to be proud of my team again.

I agree with you on bill cowher being a great potential for HC next year and about the qb's and the draft but MCNABB??I don't get it,why would you want to invest in another broken qb?Leftwich can't stay healthy and joey is NOT a starting qb I like redman but let's give shockley a chance in the offseason to compete for a job with redman and I say use one of our 2 drafts picks in the second to get colt brennan or woodson in here!I think if mcfadden is available it's too easy,we have gotta pick him up if not then long!Picking up feneca would be a great improvement also if we could get that done as well!I do the it will take a little while to build up to a playoff caliber team built this would be a great start!

sorry, i live in philly and know how much they hate him here now. my thought is that mcnabb could bring shockley's game and skill up a level or 2. say what you want about him now, but he knows how to win. but colt brennan, brian brahm, not the answer. if you want to draft a qb, wait til next year and look at tebow

Cowher is not going to come here, period. There is no proven HC that is going to come into this mess. Why would they?

ARE U KIDDIN ME WITH TIM TEBOW???? June Jones hit the nail on the head saying that he is a "system" QB....There is no way that Tebow will ever sniff a down in the NFL...This guy is a the definition of a college QB....

It all starts with the play of the QB, we need someone in there that can win...Im not saying we need someone who puts up great numbers, just someone to manage the offense and move the ball...let the plays develop and not make mistakes...the QB position has to be addressed IMMEDIATELY!

i'm not saying tebow is the answer, but he's better than brahm and brennan. none of them are nfl starters. my biggest fear with petrino was that he was going to waste a high pick on brahm and it would spiral out of control. i think cowher would actually like an opportunity to take a team in trouble, and build it up to greatness his way. dont rule him out.
