dixon to play in bowl game

dixon has been selected to the hula bowl, a college football all-star game nfl scouts use to evaluate draft prospects. dixon will play for the east squad in the game, set for jan. 12 in honolulu, hawaii.

dixon, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound senior, led the hampton university pirates this season with 16 tackles for loss, including a team-high six sacks. he has started at defensive end for the pirates since midway through his freshman season.

"it's really a blessing to play another college game," he said. "it gives me the opportunity to get some more film in front of nfl teams.

"it's an honor to play in this game. i read somewhere that (hall of fame quarterback) joe montana played in this game."

marcus dixon said he hopes the game helps him reach his goal of getting some individual workouts with nfl teams and receive an invitation to the nfl combine. the combine is the premier scouting evaluation session for nfl prospects.

dixon is the second hu player invited this season to play in a college all-star game. defensive end kendall langford will play in the east-west shrine game, set for jan. 19 in houston, tex.
