texas a&m has called a news conference for noon et, when it is expected to announce the hiring of mike sherman as head football coach, according to the dallas morning news and houston chronicle.

sherman, currently the houston texans' offensive coordinator, was 59-43 as head coach of the green bay packers from 2000-05. he was an assistant coach at texas a&m under r.c. slocum from 1989-93 and from 1995-96.

sherman, 52, would replace dennis franchione, who resigned after the aggies beat texas on friday. franchione was 32-28 during five seasons in college station.

thats a great hire for a&m.
