defense. tech has always had a good defense. too many poor decisions on offensive starters.

no offense.. chan gailey was an offensive coordinator and was the coordinator until he gave up the reigns last year to nix and this year to bond. tenuta has ran the defense.. the problem with gailey is he did a poor job and his coaches did of improving talent on the offensive side of the ball.. the qb situation is bad because they don't improve on gt.

georgia tech fires gailey after six seasons

chan gailey is out as head coach of the georgia tech football team, sources familar with the situation told the ajc.

athletics director dan radakovich will make the announcement at a 2 p.m. news conference today.

radakovich said two weeks ago he might have a decision to make about whether to keep gailey, who has four years left on a contract that pays him more than $1 million a year.

officials at georgia tech could not be reached prior to the news conference.

saturday's 31-17 loss to georgia left gailey 0-6 against the bulldogs. no other tech football coach has lost more than four in a row in the series.

but gailey, 55, was also the only coach who has had nothing but winning seasons at tech, and he was only the second tech coach to win seven or more games in six consecutive seasons. (bobby dodd did it from 1951-56.)

gailey's team was 7-5 and headed for tech's 11th consecutive bowl game. gailey is 44-32 at tech, 28-20 in acc games. despite ncaa sanctions that cost the jackets six scholarships in the 2006 and 2007 seasons and an academic mess that cost him 10 players after his first year on the job, he has put together teams good enough to beat at least one top 25 opponent every season.

what he didn't do was beat georgia, finish a season in the top 25, win an acc championship or produce a 10-victory season.

gailey did not lobby publicly to keep his job. he said only that he is doing his best and that whether that is good enough is for someone else to judge.

texas a&m, nebraska and mississippi all announced their coaches' resignations or firings within 24 hours of their final regular-season games. michigan's lloyd carr informed his staff and players the day after the loss to ohio state that ended the wolverines' regular season.

why would he just give up the keys to his caddy (offense) so easy to a coordinator.

here's what he's never done at gt:

0-6 vs. in-state rivals (uga[sic])

no 10 win season

no top 25 ranking at the end of the year

no acc championship

never developed a qb, for an offensive-minded coach (aj suggs, reggie no balls, taylor bennett)

well, folks, i'll say the candidates will be (no order):

john tenuta - dc

randy edsall - hc at uconn

june jones - hc at hawaii, former oc/hc for durtyburds...

any other out there?
