am i the only one who doesnt think this is that big of a deal? we're 1-6.... who cares? grady isnt in our long term plans. i dont even know if football is in grady's long term plans.

with that said... i think if there is any way that albert haynesworth makes his way on the free agency market... back the friggin brinx up to him!

i honestly can't believe what a boner some of you guys have for haynesworth. the dude is hurt all the freakin' time. he's made it through all 16 games once in his entire career... and that was his rookie year when he had less playing time and only started 3 games. he has never lived up to his potential until this year (which is a contract year... think about it). throwing a ton of money his way because of this one decent season would be foolish. the guy will give you 32 tackles, 2 sacks, and some motivation/attitude issues per year... i'd rather not blow our financial wad on that. we did that once not too long ago with hartwell, and i'd hope we don't continue to make the same mistakes over and over.

my math be off, and maybe i really am adding 2 + 2 and getting 5

but here is an older veteran not in the long term plans who gets cut suddenly - anyone else thinking he is one of the unnamed sources ######ing and moaning to the press off the record about the coaching staff?

smells like a "message" to me

i posted this downstairs, but i'll repeat it here. keep in mind, grady spent a few seasons in no, so i got a close look at not only his play but his attitude.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

here's what i'm thinking and i warn you this is all conjecture based on what i've seen out of old tubby:

grady jackson is a good player as long as he's happy. you've seen a taste of what he's like unhappy this offseason with his contract. what i've seen out of him is that when he's unhappy he becomes a problem. his production goes down and he becomes one of those 'locker room cancers,' you hear about, the type of guy that's always complaining and dragging down everyone elses moral. grady, also, is the type of guy that his moral is based not so much off of his paycheck, but wins. as long as you're winning, he's fine, but if you start losing, he becomes a problem.

so don't get too upset about this one. i know he can give great production when he's motivated to do so, i've seen it here when he was in no. however, i also saw the side of grady that decided he didn't give a crap anymore. remember jonathan sullivan, a dt the saints drafted a few years back? the original thought was that grady could mentor the kid and help instill the work ethic needed for an nfl player. grady didn't give much of a **** about that and i think the poor example grady set in our locker room helped the kid bust in the nfl.

again, all this is conjecture purely based on grady's history. i'm not saying i'm 100% on this, but i do think it's a likely possibility.

that's a very good point. that's why you always have to really take a critical look at the personnel on your roster before you draft someone. i often hear people calling for us to draft so-and-so "so he can be groomed by [insert name of a veteran player here]." what people fail to think about though is that not every veteran in the nfl wants to mentor someone or groom someone for the future. a lot of players are just out there playing for personal glory and a paycheck.

he's also got big roster bonuses next season so perhaps they knew they weren't going to keep him beyond this year and decided to see if the future run stopper is already on the team or if they need to prepare to draft one...

as i understood it the bonuses were supposed to act as a settlement for the lawsuit that grady had pending against the team. that has everything to do with this. so now i guess they don't want to pay up?

this is a sleezy move by the falcons. fire mckay.

if anything why didnt we trade him to a team that needed a run stuffer, i know he's old, but at least get a 5th or 6th rd pick for him. now someone is gonna sign him, and were gonna look like idiots for letting him go. i really hope trey lewis is the reason he was let go, hopefully he ends up bein a star

because the trade deadline has come and gone. if they were gonna do this, it should have been done before the season started, not after 7 games into the season. what a boneheaded move.

it is a sleezy move...it also shows yet again why the nfl has the worst players union.
