long time lurker coming out to vent

hello,

i hate to launch such a big first post but i ve been a lurker for years and so i feel like i know some of you anyway. like all of you i have had my ups and downs with this team over the past 25 plus years of my life and never have i felt the way i feel about this season.

it took me awhile to let go of vick but i did but i can t let go of how the remainder of this season has gone down. we need major changes and fast or we will go back to being fans who expect failure year after year not victory.

if we have had anything over the past few years we have had hope and every week i see that hope fading faster than inhibitions on the girls gone wild tour bus.

first of all rich mckay and his agenda need to get the **** out of atlanta. his blunders and oversights have turned us into the football edition of the bad news bears. the simple fact that we don t have a proper placekicker speaks volumes in itself. i love mort and what he has done but **** its time for us to secure that guy. why is that so hard to fathom?

should i speak on the offensive line? do i have to? of course not but i will anyway. besides justin (the rare potentially good mckay pick) we don t have a building block for this team. i don t care if peyton manning or tom brady were here, they would get killed being protected by that rag-tag group of oafs who probably would not make the cut on the arena level.

as for rb s i wonder what pictures and/or videos warrick dunn has on walt disney (arthur blank). seriously, his time is beyond over. it was over during the infamous dvd era. he s been a mediocre rb who does the right thing morally, so for some reason that has earned him a starting job. jerious is an awesome kid but he can t do it alone; we need to go with a two-back system. get a complementary back in here than can knock some heads. imagine what it would feel like to have a true pile pushing power back to wear down defenses? you think the norwood looks good now? he would smash guys who are actually worn down. oh and btw let s try using our fullback inside the red zone shall we?

picking on our qb situation is like sending a tank to roll over a matchbox car, but again let s go there. the movie the wizard of oz comes to mind. the cowardly lion (harrington) is trying so hard to sell the fact that he is a leader but yet he is simply too unsure to get the ball out of his hands when he needs to. he folds very quickly or he leads his receivers into situations that are borderline suicidal. i didn t like the idea of bringing him here when all was well in oz pre-fidogate. he s proven that he has a loser s mentality but we are stuck with him for now. i can t really fault the team or byron for his situation. we all knew he was a cripple but he was the best available option and we had to take it. i pray this area of the house is just a pure clean sweep in the off-season.

wr s and te s: alge has been a cornerstone of this franchise and an all around good dude but his production as fallen off from late2005 on up. hopefully he can get his mind and hands right and go back to being the rock that we need him to be.

roddy (the other potentially good mckay pick) white took his challenge to man up and has come through for his team pretty consistently this year. in my eyes he scored another crucial td today and he s starting to be the receiver we drafted him to be. jenkins needs to really evaluate whether he even wants to be here. he plays like he could care less. see the titans game if you think i am wrong. the new kid could possibly join roddy 2-3 years from know as the tandem in this division given they get some support. onto the d

keith& go home. seriously. you are a georgia boy through and through and your level of commitment to the falcons can not be overstated. but its time to join the coaching staff and mentor the next generation of lbs. we need you but not on the field. your job is to strike fear and to make plays and you can no longer do either. boley and williams are playmakers and i pray we do not lose them b/c they are on a quest for a championship environment. but then again would you blame them? jamal anderson and houston have bust written all over them. i hope i am wrong but from the opportunities they have been given, they have done very little to showcase their so-called playmaking potential.

d-hall? i wish he would shut the f**k up and play like he wants to win a ring and not the number one spot on sportscenter s daily highlight reel. rome is burning drop the fiddle. his talent still places him amongst t the best of the moment but his other attributes work to his disadvantage.

jimmy williams i can still give the benefit of the doubt because i don t see how he got a real serious chance but chris crocker should not have even been brought back this year let alone continue to watch tds sail over his head ( see today s first strike from n.o.)

now petrino. i was excited to see him come here. notice the key word is was. he s a smart man with a great football mind but i really do believe either he is a) over his head with this nfl thing or cool.gif he s trying his very, very best to get his boy brohm. i m not delusional or a conspiracy theorist. just look at his situational play calling.

flashback to the last drive of the titans game as a perfect example. we play teams close enough to look competitive but when it comes time to win we don t close deals. we make bad decisions in the red zone on every trip.

is this what we have to look forward to? and i don t care what belechick did his first year or jimmy johnson for that matter either. this is our situation. and despite it all we have had chances to win and failed to do so thanks to in part good old fashioned horrific coaching.

finally, walt disney. if people want their money back for this debacle, it needs to be refunded. he says he s a community guy then stand up and be that guy. you can not run a football team like a fortune 500 company. the dynamics are different. we want wins and **** it we deserve a championship team after all of the years of defeat and humiliation we have suffered. the falcons filter failed. whatever...go get the best. not some good guys who also like to help the elderly but the best. not some ok guys who help the homeless but the best.

thanks for letting me vent. i have always been and always will be a falcons fan. it s in my dna but its time to start demanding more. not through boos and poor attendance either but i m sure we can find a way as real fans to help get our team back to the point of where there is hope.

very nicely written. i can tell you are a true fan! i can not agree with you more on your take of the current situation. it is truely a sad year and even though it mimics a lot of previous years in falcons history it feels even worse knowing that it could have been so much better this year. time will tell...

can't argue with hardly anything you've said.in fact, today was the first day in years that i didn't center my whole day around watching this game.in fact,i didn't watch one **** miserable minute because i knew it would turn out this way.to be honest ,i didn't watch hardly any of the monday night game last week either.instead,i hopped on i-20,took a two hour drive from augusta to the atl,and spent the entire day with my family conquering goliath, batman, superman, and the likes at 6flags,and had a great time.guess what?not one time did i regret not watching,or recording the game for watching later.i could care less anymore.i will no longer let this laughing stock of an nfl franchise dictate my time on sundays(or the ocasional mon, thurs)in fact,i no longer look forward to any of the games.sad?kinda..,but i won't lose any sleep over it.not any more.give me a reason to center my time around this team again, and maybe i will.in the meantime........

ok now i will agree with you that you have alot of valid points but don't suddenly jump on the dunn is done bus and claim that he has been for years. yes, he is having a terrible year and has definetly slowed down some but don't act like this is standard dunn. he rushed for 1106 yds in '04, 1416 in '05, and 1140 yds in '06. so it may be fair to say he's slowing down this year, but at the same time, maybe this is just a result of the change in offensive philosophy. either way, don't generalize things.

this right here is why atlanta is considered to be such a joke of a sports city. do you realize that we were in the superbowl nine years ago and have made the playoffs 2 more times since then. in that period of time, 15 nfl teams have not made the playoffs. yet those stadiums are still packed, and those fans support their teams. so go ahead and leave and see if we really want you back... fair weather fan

dj i agree with you in regards to fair weather fans. but as far as dunn goes, he greatly reaped rewards from the distraction of #7. a lot of his biggest plays came from packages that took advantage of defenses that spied the qb. but football is the ultimate team sport. so if that's what it took for little man to make himself seem valuable so be it. i'm not going to argue with that but now in the present ad looking ahead it is painfully obvious it's a wrap.

i say you're right on soundking. 7 definetly helped. if nothing else, he helped spread out the defense, fearing that he might turn the corner. so yeah dunn can't really run now through holes that don't exist. but either way i think we all know this.
