new orleans it was a play teeming with potential controversy that denied the falcons a touchdown that could have proven pivotal in their 22-16 loss to host new orleans sunday.

wide receiver roddy white tightroped down the left sideline after catching a deep pass from joey harrington early in the fourth quarter and raced into the end zone for what would have given atlanta a 20-14 lead.

however, white was ruled out of bounds at the 7-yard line for a 32-yard gain. he begged coach bobby petrino to challenge the call and petrino seemed inclined to, until he was informed the play could not be reviewed.

"i thought roddy was in on that catch," petrino explained. "they didn't call it that way. it was not a reviewable play. once they call him out of bounds, you can't review it."

atlanta settled for a 21-yard morten andersen field goal and a 16-14 lead.

same exact thing happened to schaub a couple of years ago against the patriots and that bad call contributed to our loss that day. anyone else remember that?

fair enough.

missed call by the refs. happens.

what petrino should be held accountable for is the punt.

i can't even blame him for the punt it was the right call with 2minutes left 3 timeouts and a 4th and 10+. if we turn the ball over right there they can gain 15-20 yards kick a fg and pretty much completly put us out of the game. if our defense stuffed the run like they was supposed to knowing it was coming with those 3 time outs we get the ball back around our 40 to 45 with 1:30 left and a good chance to win the game.

you sir, are wrong. that was not playing to win the game. the saints needed just 1 first down to run out the clock and the odds of them doing that were in their favor. that was a bad call and you can't convince me otherwise because of the way the rest of the games have gone this year.

it was 4th and 13. there is no way you should try that on 4th down with joey.

thanks for clearifying. this rule sucks. i don't understand why this rule is still in place. hopefully it will be changed.
