CMarinoNFL reacted to Jesus in I thought Terry Fontenont was paired with Nathaniel Hackett?
They won't get another interview with Hackett until the Packers play. They could have offered him the job and it hasn't been announced because they are still playing, like Shanahan getting the SF job but it wasn't announced until the super bowl. I just want them to get their guy. If it's Smith hire him. If it's Hackett wait and hire him. Don't let anyone else take them.

Hackett is one of my favorites, tbh. I like that he doesnt have loads of hype (sometimes those guys seem to be a hot name as a product of their team's production). Upon further research, he's a super high IQ guy with legendary bloodlines and has a plan. Sign me up for Fontenot and the latter.

Oh yeah. Fontenot interview mustve gone super well. Thatll be the new pair.
Hackett is the glue guy coordinator. I prefer him to Bieniemy. West coast guy, football coaching bloodlines, and ARod, who praises nobody, loves Hack. Stenny's OLs are historically great.

    Gladly.
The #Falcons front loaded their contract with Matt Ryan so they could assess a possible regression in the late years of his contract. They structured the contract to draft his successor in 2022, but with the draft position the team is in, the plan is accelerated.
With the #Falcons being in prime QB position, the plan of drafting a 2022 QB is moved up a year, hypothetically & logically. If they opt not to draft one this year, it would HAVE to be next yr, unless they either want to extend him or have a Fitzpatrick type situation with a rookie and a stopgap starter.
And unless they LOVE a QB next year already, which is massively unlikely and not that smart, waiting a year makes no sense all things considered. They’d save $15.1M if they cut him before the third day of the 2022 season. Draft a QB this year, let him learn and ride behind Matt and assess the situation from there.

You MUST pay him his prorated bonus as his PRB = guaranteed, but his guaranteed salary negates to 0 dollars from $5.5M at the start of the 2022 season. So, you draft a QB while you're in the top 5 now, or, you'd have to draft a guy next year OR continue to pay him his bonuses if you don't and bank on a rookie being a capable year 1 starter. Think Miami. We would have a Tua/Fitzpatrick **** show type situation.
Matt Ryan is NOT problem A, but his contract is set up for a scenario just like this. They pay him early while he's great and assess a possible regression. Regardless of whether or not you believe he is regressing, to ignore the fact that by the end of his contract he'll be almost 40 is malpractice. Financially, the team banked on a regression starting in 2021-2022. Guarantee none of his salary late (if there is a regression) but give him his bonuses for playing/stability. This is textbook veteran QB salary cap.
A new GM and a new HC are entering the page as well. Cap flexibility is the most essential piece to an incoming front office and I doubt they're looking at an old QB and banking on his better years being in front of him while sitting at pick 4 or pick 3 (not sure yet).
Just think it financially makes sense. Is he good enough to earn an extension in two years? Maybe! He might even have an MVP season next year. But if he doesn't and you opt out of a QB this year, you are in trouble. That will be an interesting decision, but thats my 2 cents as to why I bet they go QB.
