I think the only input the fans had was just saying they wanted new uniforms. Rich McKay said that Nike presented a large number of ideas, and probably did so with software or UX presentation that allowed the Falcons front office to mix and match styles. The Falcons (like a lot of organizations) probably made a decision by committee. From my experience, anytime a committee makes a decision involving branding and overall aesthetics of any sort of design piece, you end up with results that are going to be bad and in need of revisions in the near future. It's always best to leave the decision up to one or two people and nothing more.
I like the new uniforms to a degree, but the ATL on the jersey is forced and could have been placed on the sleeve or just left on the facemask mounting pad. Silver could have been implemented into the final jersey and pant design, and I only say that because they went out of the way to add a silver facemask to the helmet. The design is okay, but far from great.
Paul Lukas is great to keep you updated but he has a little too much of an old-school mentality. Seeing him obsess over removing Nike/New Era logos from official gear is pretty annoying if you follow him on Twitter.
How long does the team have to wait to make simple changes like number font and outlines? removal of the ATL and replace with a small "ATLANTA"? You seee its on the inside of the collar? Who sees that?
Hopefully not 5 years. These are so close to be REALLY good. Just needs some tweaks.
The side stripe and numbers need a silver outline to go with the facemask. Make it a outline not a shadow on the numbers. Change the font. Then I think I might be ok with this. And get rid of the gradient red and just use straight red with grey pants. Its very simple. These are kinda close to be great.
