  1. When mike smith loses he smiles and pats the butts and says "good hard fought game, but we have so e stuff to work on" say what you will about the Ryan's but I would give anything for their heart and soul on this team.

  2. People are going to keep posting these threads every week til we are mathematically ruled out. Lol at least we can't lose this week. Even if we go 9-7 or 10-6 playoffs would still be tough with tiebreakers and another thing saints will be number one seed so we would play them in the dome and we all know how that would turn out. We only need to be embarrassed once there this year. Lol

  3. As much as I hate to admit it some of the perennial Debbie Downers and other negative types around here are proving to correct on many points.

1.) TD couldn't build an effective offensive or defensive line if you gave him 6 weeks worth of Jolt Cola and the cheat codes for Madden. Good at picking up offensive skill players, has shown some acumen at picking up decent secondary help but he has no idea at all about the lines.

2.) Smitty's almost fetish-like obsession with committing no penalties and playing mistake-free football makes this team play tight, scared and nervous. When the normally quiet and reserved punter Koenen said as much when he went to the Bucs that Atlanta was not a fun place to play that was a warning sign in my view. Further evidence: Did you see the faces of Smitty, Ryan and several of the other players on the sideline as the Seahawks made their furious comeback attempt on us in the playoffs last year? Looked like men who had been told that the governor refused to stay their executions.

3.) TD overvalues the actual worth and contributions of the players he has drafted when they hit free agency. Baker living up to his money? Bierman? DeCoud? Even Willy Mo has dropped off.

4.) Whether you agree with this or not I believe this current regime (TD and Smitty) has taken this franchise as far as they can....Considering where we were when they jointly arrived they have done a really good job. But in your heart of hearts do you really believe that this tandem can get us a Lombardi? I don't.

5.) The admittedly massive quantity of injuries we have suffered this year will of course give both Smitty and TD a mulligan on this year. Unless this team totally tanks and goes 2-14, 3-13 this is virtually no chance either of these guys is going anywhere...which means we will have at least 2-3 more years of probably really good regular season records, spit, chewing gum and duct tape holding our lines together and 3rd round and later draft picks mysteriously going into The Witness Protection Program.

6.) The great and well-constructed teams not only survive tons of injuries (see Green Bay's Superbowl team from a few years back) they power through them. Why? Because they have been effectively built through the draft and free agency to have real solid contributors waiting in the wings to become the new fill-in starters.

7.) I started to see trouble a couple of years ago when TD started to bring in people like Ray Edwards, Osi, Asante to try and patch over goofs or whiffs or areas he just plainly didn't effectively address in the draft.

We have at least 2-3 more years of these 2 guys.

This is the best post I have seen this week. Agree with everything you said.

  4. I'm sorry to beat a dead horse but of a coach can win at least more than one playoff win with the talent on this team, they are either not trying hard enough or don't care. All the smith lovers will talk about the line but other teams with great coaches deal with bad lines, bad defense, etc. look at the patriots. If smith was coaching them they would be under .500 every year and I don't understand why people don't see it.

  5. IF Julio is done for the season, Roddy never regains his normal form and SJax just doesn't produce then we are assured a top 5 pick.

Yes, at the end of the season we lose Gonzo and probably a few free agents, but this team is good. PERIOD.

I see it this way, we aren't going into rebuilding mode, we are going into reloading mode.

Top 5 pick could net us a franchise player, or a mountain of early round picks depending on where we end up. These picks could bring in the necessary talent and depth that we truly need. We could stop the revolving door that is known as the right side of the OL. We could find that premier pass rusher (DE/LB) and we could significantly improve our defense.

Building off of what we've done for the last few years, we can build a young, talented defense under Nolan with Spoon, WillyMo, Trufant, and Alford as our foundation.

I actually agree. Look at Detroit last year and they are much improved this year. But coaching staff is my big concern. Every team has down years.
