I don't think it was because they didn't know the rules. I think they were mesmerized( surprised ) by the kick and became spectators.
Nobody has really seen a kick like this it seems.

Who is that first Falcon that was basically building a bonfire and pitching a tent?
I must say there is something so soothing about Baldy breaking down our breakdowns. Healing the pain one session of laughter and tears at a time.

Cant really use Saban as an example. Saban went to a team with no QB  and wanted to sign Brees to fill the spot. The GM ignored him and instead signed an over the hill Culpepper. Cant really say how Saban would do running the show in the NFL because he was never given the oppurtunity. He was forced to play with a QB that had absolutely  nothing left

Blaming Ryan for this teams problems is like blaming the window washer at the Texas Book Depository for the Kennedy assassination.

Which is why if you don't think its gonna make it ten yards, why risk touching it?

Dukeduke211 reacted to Falcons Fan MVP in I think i figured out why we've had trouble holding on to leads since 2012.
We need a smash mouth chew up the clock Michael Turner style running back!
2012 was the year Michael Turner declined or wasn't used effectively by Koetter depending on who you ask. We haven't had a chew the clock up and wear the defense out type back since.
Losing big leads happened before Dan Quinn got here. 21-0 London game in 2014. 2012 NFC championship game. We had several close calls in 2012 the Seattle playoffs game. Week 2 vs Denver but we escaped with a win. Even the mighty Kyle Shanahan blew some big leads against SD and NE. Sark blew the 17-0 lead to Jay Cutler. I think the big bruising back would help keep our fast tired defense rested.
I wish they would give Ollison more playing time.

The onside kick disaster exemplifies this team perfectly.  They are unprepared and play not to lose. A winner dives for the ball. If they do not recover or mess up, then at least it was their error. The outcome of the game was affected by their actions and not controlled by the other team, refs etc. Every hands team player should have been trying to dive on that ball.
Another example of playing not to lose is the falcons defense. The falcons defense stopped aggressively attacking the cowboys when they had the lead. It is one thing to go prevent in the fourth quarter up two scores but to start playing soft that early in the game is inexcusable. The falcons are soft and not mentally strong.

    Sounds like a smart guy...
Everything i found said that if the receiving team touches the ball before ten yards than the kicking team can recover. This was what the NFL wanted to get rid of because it's just a bunch of helmets going into a pile. They did change the rule about stacking one side of the kicking team.
What they need to do is block out the Cowboys and jump on the **** ball. Once the whistle blows game over.

Most likely would have been mis handled if someone tried to "just fall on it".
Ever seen an onside kick like that?
I can't pin the game on that play but it was harder than people think to recover that ball.

Valid point, but when the ball turned upfield guys should've jumped it, or goodwin should've been knocked on his a$$. As soon ad he stood over the ball he was the only one gonna recover it.

Totally agree. We need a real defense and a different culture. This one is done.

Thats one of the main reasons we lose.when you play not to lose you lose.when you play to win you win more than not.

I am 99.9% sure that as soon as the receiving team touches it it's a live ball. But like somebody mentioned (can't remember who😎), millions of dollars to catch a ball......

The rule is confusing. If it doesn't go 10 yards it's illegal procedure. I don't remember if they they changed it or not. But if the cowboys recover despite a falcon touch before 10 yards it's a flag too. But I'm not sure.

Because even with that drop and the offense’s 39 points the Falcons defense still allowed 40, FORTY, points to a team missing its top 3 offensive tackles (Smith, Collins, Erving); and STILL lost the game despite the opposing offense fumbling the ball FOUR times in the first quarter.
    That’s just downright pathetic. Inexcusable.
