Be really nice if what both lines needed was better coaching and better scheme. And that's what they have now.
Think the Oline will look much better this year, because Smith's scheme will keep the opposing D unsure of what's being run, there'll be lots of presnap motion, 2 or even, at first, 3 TEs to help block, and Ryan thrives on play action.

Good post...... saved me some keyboard strokes.

This is a big concern for me. Our revamped o-line is going against a questionably talented defensive line. Mayfield and the newer guys may be in for a rude awakening once they have to face players with above average talent.

Relax. This OL and DL will be competitive. They are professional. As long as the OL can block with the zone thingy run game and the play action MASTER MR2 plays, it will be fun to watch.

Two good TEs and decent run stopping DL, an expert crew of LBs and some improved secondary. I am thinking time of possession here, but they have the receivers to toast any secondary with MR2.

Hurst dropping to 250 is a surprise to me. Dude had good speed at 265-268. Really hope it doesn't effect his blocking, but they've all forgotten more about TE than I'll ever know.

Yes, Good post. From my limited amateur experience watching Hurst block, I see a man who gets into a seal-off area and not a punisher..... "A seal here and a seal there".....So maybe ...

    Glad you're ok.....it's hard out here ...

Let me know if you need anything

Wow. thank you ROH. Indeed hard. Thank you.

All is okay as through the years I have developed a survival mindset  I am 70 so there is that limited wisdom. Viet Nam at 19.

My survival plan evolved into an aggressive one after getting out maneuvered by what I deemed lesser competition in my young years. Be it corporate work at a desk or everyday competition. I was the naive one who thought all were on the good side of things. Sad. Bad times to some were challenges to me.

I have a cushion of attitude. It is my defiant nature that gets me through. I suffer no fools/slobs/illiterates or slackers.

HEEEHeee thank you for this opportunity to communicate with you (And the rest of the board dammit .) on this level....I took it by the horns and rode it............ To the ground?

This forum and you are important to me

If you want to put any stock into ESPN’s metrics for defensive line, there were only 2 teams who ranked top 5 in both run stop win rate and pass rush win rate, the Bucs and the Falcons

they clearly think the blame rests on the secondary

Our iDL has some quality pieces, we need to add to edge but there wasn’t a whole lot of options this off-season. Also secondary clearly needed a complete rehaul so it’s no surprise how different it looks compared to last year, and will look different again next year especially at safety

    Good post. Well stroked.

Just don't start a preseason injury thread

    Dammit man.You remember? I will never...Hey, didn't I repent some years ago?

This is a shock. I thought I was good here. I stand chastised. But thank you very much for bringing it up Dammit.

Now I will struggle to fall asleep. My Yorkie growls when I take him from the foot of the bed to cuddle with me under my chin. Tonight he will be indignant  For he will be squeezed as I try to fall asleep.

    His growl is on you.

The national sports media were convinced Ryan was over the hill and AS and TF had no choice but to take their first pick as leaders of the franchise, a rare top-five draft pick at that, and grab a future franchise signal caller.  That was the expected move, and perfectly reasonable, almost inevitable it seemed in the weeks before the draft. The talk wasn't about whether AS and TF would take a QB, but which one did they want and would that player still be available at #4?

Props to AS and TF for being secure enough in themselves and their ability to succeed immediately by staying with Ryan rather than drafting his replacement at #4, thereby pushing all realistic expectations for a Falcons resurgence to 2023 at the earliest.

They realized whatever problems this team has, Quarterback wasn't one of them. The core strength and unquestioned leader of the team's offense is Mattie Ice. As we all know they took a perfect complement to Ryan and the offense at #4 with Kyle Pitts.

Hope Matt has a great season to shut up the pundits and the Ryan-hating fans. It would vindicate Smith's and Fontenot's decision to stick with Ryan for the foreseeable future and use that one-and-only top-five pick to really get this offense back into high gear, closer to 2016 than anything we've seen since. Thanks to the choice to stay with Ice,  I firmly believe we won't be waiting around for 2023 to see this team return to prominence.

One of the best posts regarding MR2 of all time.

That's because it never happened. This is the first time it's ever been talked about. It's also the first time we've ever had an offensive coach say "I need to get with Matt and implement the things he does well so we'll be successful offensively." But Arthur Smith said that back during the mini camp.

BTW, I love hearing how much of a leader he is.

Geeze....you are correct. I may have heard it in those scripted pressers....but just so sad.

Smith said it’s probably gonna be sooner than later as far as him returning in camp

McGary is a solid RT we can discuss that after the season

the real problem here is every day McGary misses is a day Mayfield isn’t taking the snaps at LG that he should be, to potentially win the spot. Because god help us Andrews at LG will wreck our offense. A worse player than Carpenter

    Good post.
