  1. Sounds like the hearings are winding down. The spin will be interesting. But overall, I think the hearing came across as serious (with a few exceptions) and the witnesses were very credible. A lot of the GOP talking points got shot down or flatly refutes. I think the headlines are going to be bad for Trump today and tomorrow. Not sure how much it will shift public support for impeachment. We probably won’t know that until a week from now. But I think it’s got the potential depending on who tuned in and what they read in the media.
  2. The GOP defenses are really weak and largely getting shot down by Dems and the witnesses.
  3. The whistleblower cannot provide additional facts for this case. He’s irrelevant now and would be a sideshow. It’s dumb to bring him in.
  4. They are ignoring them at the direction of the President. It’ll take a court to force them to testify. It COULD be obstruction of justice by Trump and/or the legal counsel. But they’ll say they were directed not to show up and followed that direction. Now, if a court ordered them to testify and they still didn’t, that would open up contempt of court. There’s also a mechanism for holding them in contempt of Congress and having the sergeant at arms bring them in to testify, but that’s not a path Dems want to go down, at least not with Mulvaney.
  5. I’m not sure it would. He’s irrelevant And would be a distraction.
  6. Also, the fact checks for Jordan’s rants aren’t going to help his cause.
  7. I think that Jim Jordan’s repeating of the defense is a bad idea. It’s going to be easy for Dems to dismantle his talking points (they already have on many points) in future hearings. The more people testify, the weaker his repeated talking points will become. It’ll make it on Fox News ad nauseam, but I’m not sure it will play well over the next week or so.
  8. What was the question? I missed it?
  9. Jordan's questioning is not very effective.
  10. Schiff is destroying the Burisma talking point the GOP is floating. This part is brutal.
  11. The embassy staffer who Taylor said overheard Trump ask U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland about the status of “the investigations” via phone just a day after Trump spoke to the Ukrainian leader will testify behind closed doors Friday in the House’s impeachment probe, according to two people familiar with the investigation. David Holmes, who is the top political affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, was present at a dinner Sondland attended July 26 in Ukraine. At one point, Sondland called Trump, and the staffer — Holmes — could overhear the president “asking Ambassador Sondland about ‘the investigations,’ ” Taylor testified, adding that “Ambassador Sondland told President Trump that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward.” The staffer — again Holmes — then asked Sondland what Trump thought of Ukraine, according to Taylor’s testimony. “Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for,” Taylor said.
  12. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), a key Trump ally on Capitol Hill, offered a novel defense of the president Wednesday, arguing that the truth is subjective. “I think what happens is, when we start to look at the facts, everybody has their impression of what truth is,” Meadows told reporters at the Capitol. His comments were reminiscent of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s now-infamous statement about “alternative facts” during the early days of Trump’s presidency.
  13. "It's not as outlandish as it could be?" Actual question asked by GOP counsel about the irregular channel (Rudy, etc.). That's going to be a meme.
  14. GOP counsel -- Zelenskyy mentioned Guiliani in the phone call because he was excited to meet America's Mayor (he actual words)!
  15. Nunes doing something very insidious but very smart. He is asking Taylor "you testified that you did not know about [insert BS conspiracy], is that correct?" Taylor responds, "that is correct". It makes it sound like Taylor is affirming the conspiracy stuff.
  16. So Nunes isn't going to ask questions, but instead is just going to restate the same debunked conspiracy theories. Okay.
  17. Yeah, this is exactly the opposite of the s*** shows from past committee hearings.
  18. GOP questions coming up.
  19. Going after the Crowdstrike nonsense now.
  20. Taylor confirms that Ukraines planned to move ahead with a CNN appearance to announce investigation into Bidens.
  21. Taylor added new information to his opening statement Wednesday, describing a July phone call between Trump and U.S. ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland overheard by a member of Taylor’s staff in which Trump purportedly asked about “the investigations.” Taylor said one of his aides told him that Sondland called Trump from a Kyiv restaurant on July 26 to update him on meetings he was having in the city. The aide heard Trump through the phone asking about “the investigations” and Sondland said the Ukrainians were ready to move forward, according to Taylor. The phone call purportedly took place after Sondland met with Andrey Yermak, a top aide to Zelensky, and one day after Trump asked Zelensky to pursue investigations into his political opponents in a controversial phone call. Taylor said that after the call, the aide asked Sondland what Trump thought about Ukraine and Sondland said that Trump cares “more about the investigations of Biden” that the president’s personal attorney, Rudolph W. Giuliani, “was pressing for.” Taylor said he had not provided this account to impeachment investigators during his Oct. 22 deposition because his staff member only told him about the episode last Friday.
  22. That's who he sounds like!
  23. Fox still pushing Biden conspiracy theory chyrons on screen during the testimony.
  24. July 26th meeting. Taylor staff overheard Sondland talking to Trump on the phone in a restaurant. They heard Trump directly ask about the investigations. Sondland told Trump the Ukrainians “were ready to move forward” on investigations. Taylor staff asked Sondland what Trump thought about Ukraine. Sondland said that Trump cared more about the investigations into Biden.
  25. Holy s***...I hadn’t heard about the July 26th meeting where Taylor’s staff heard Trump directly ask about the investigations!
