Obviously, if you drop to mid-late first, Moehrig is head and shoulders above the crowd.
After that, Grant the likely 2nd guy in round 2.
Then keep an eye on Tyree Gillespie out of Mizzou, late 2, solid 3, imo.
Of the next tier that can develop to be good? My list is...
    Cisco, Syracuse 4-5
    Washington, TCU 2-4
    Caden Sterns, Texas 4-5
    Richard LeCounte, UGA 5-7/UDFA
    Paris Ford, PITT 5-7/UDFA
    Jacoby Stevens, LSU 4-7/UDFA
...and a sleeper is Reed Blankenship out of Middle Tenn. Kid can play.

This position is why the Falcons could really benefit from a trade down scenario that results in ATL acquiring more 2nd and 3rd round picks:
    1. the Falcons need to add multiple safeties
    2. There are a LOT of safeties worthy of a mid-round pick and (based on the history of the draft) at least one of those safeties picked rounds 2-4 will end up being a 10-year vet that anchors the secondary for a defense that competes for Super Bowls.
The more chances the Falcons have to select that Safety, the more likely they are to get it right.
The top safeties according to TATF chatter are Moehring and Grant, with Moehring not making it past the 2nd round (and maybe late 1st) and Grant not making it past the 3rd (maybe 2nd).

Even for those who don’t like Ryan, you have to admit the thought of having him plus 5-7 additional draft picks is still enticing

Terry is playing mind games to drive up value of 4th pick after panthers just killed it. It causes panic in someone hoping qb drops and it gives him an out if we trade the pick or draft someone else

I was listening to 92.9 yesterday and they had a guy who used to scout with TF for the stains (can't remember his name). The host asked him how many safeties and CBs he thought the Falcons should draft and his response (and I am paraphrasing here): "When you go into the draft looking to get a specific number of players at specific positions you handicap your team because it influences your evaluation of players. Instead of looking for RB, OL, CB, or S, you should be looking for good football players."
This just confirms TF's stated philosophy of filling needs through FA and drafting BPA. Of course, there are times when BPA and position of need are the same, but do not be surprised when they are not. Be prepared for surprising picks this year. I am.

I’ve been saying this for weeks now. Folks thinking “we have to get a _____” are just traumatized by Dimitroff. Fontenot has already said he doesn’t make decisions like that.

    Alright so scrimmage over.
Both sides of the ball had wins today. Yes, the two most talented WRs are out, but must give some credit to defense for making plays.
    WRs who stood out today:
Demetrius Robertson-huge day with 2 bombs caught, KO for a TD, and another KO for about 40 yards. “He looks different, like he realized he was in a money year.”
Justin Robinson-5-6 catches for about 160 and a score. Was seen limping but appears to be OK.
Adonai Mitchell-worked mostly with the twos but looks really good. He and Carson have developed a nice chemistry. Caught several balls today. “He’s a steal.”
To my surprise, Jackson Meeks did participate today and caught a deep pass over Nyland Green. I hear he looks OK but there’s clear separation from him and the other WRs.
Arian Smith was cooking prior to going down with a wrist injury. Saw that sprained wrist which is good news.
DWO was not seen much at all today. He was out there but didn’t see participating.
Broc Bowers had a strong day. He does look as advertised from previous chatter. He had 4-5 catches including a big one down the sideline.
Seither got burn today, then he got BURNED. Major Burns with the hit of the day on Seither. Forced an incomplete pass. Fortunate both bounced up.
As mentioned earlier, Kendall is receiving and running strong. I’ve seen video of him catching a 50 yarded earlier this spring, and now hearing he had a strong day against the ones.
Zamir’s performance was described as OK. “He probably avg. 4 yards a carry”. Nothing splashy today. Described as dancing a bit today.
James Cook had a strong day receiving. He beat the 2s for a score on another wheel route. That’s his second in as many practices. FWIW, I did hear that the ones (Channing and Quay) defended the wheel route “perfectly” today. Forced an incompletion to Cook in that regard earlier on.
JT had an up and down day, “but still looked good.” Hearing his command is strong at LOS. Connected on 4 bombs today. Mechanics look better. Feeling was he was probably around the 70% completion. Also had the INT (in the end zone) and had several passes defended from defenders. Part of its ball placement. Part of it is lack of chemistry. It’s early and the kinks are being worked out. JT to Drob was pretty good today. Also hit Justin twice and one finished with a one handed grab. Great coverage by Kimber, better catch by Justin.
Carson was running with the twos and looks like he should be second in line. Had a strong day, despite the hand injury. He looks different due to his size back there. He had several great throws against the 1s. His chemistry with Adonai Mitchell was strong.
Brock Vandagriff also looked good going mostly against the 3s today. “He’s got a ways to go, but has a really strong arm.”
On defense, Jalen Kimber with a handful of PBUs today. “He’s really good.” Also had a nice open field tackle on Zamir towards the boundary that would’ve been a huge gain had he not made that tackle. Zamir is a bull so that’s impressive with current weight.
Ameer Speed continues to look good despite giving up a couple of bombs today to Jrob and Drob. He also had a few PBUs.
Ringo made a few plays today. He looks physical and gets a good jam. He was beat several times today but had a nice PBU.
As far as the trenches, the feeling is the DL won the day overall. They gave up a few explosive runs to Kendall but outside of that, they were strong. Mentioned the JD99 fumble return. Hope we see video of that. Nolan had a really good day; consistently in the backfield. Jalen Carter was immovable. Starting OL: Truss, Salyer, Ericson, Shaffer, McClendon. Interior pressure won the day with two deep of Davis, Carter, Stack, and Wyatt. These guys consistently collapsed the pocket. The twos on OL rotated a lot. Was too hard to keep up with. Can say that Jones and Mims were at T positions but interior couldn’t keep up with. Nolan forced a couple of sacks and went against Mims out there. Mims was later seen limping off and didn’t finish practice but I’m told he will be OK.
    Back with more later.

So easy to understand this guy. Quinn on the other hand rambled and babbled incoherently, then threw in the slogan of the week a few times and that was the entire interview.

It’s football and I doubt UGA’s practices are any more brutal than Bama, or any other major program.  Injuries happen and that’s part of it.  It sucks, but should they be playing 2 hand touch?

32 minutes ago New   Add bookmark #4 That's awesome. I have sooooo many amazing plays that he has made since going to Athens but for obvious reasons we can't post. They come off of the UGA practice website and the clips have the play calls, cadence, audibles and other stuff attached so its " top secret" but I will give you something to think about; last yr 2 things happened that changed for the better last yr offensively. 1st game of the yr and on the verge of losing they bring in Stetson Bennett to save the day...STETSON BENNETT. The kid that was told a month prior that they really didn't have a spot for him. Later, JT emerges and jump starts this offense and gives everyone a reason to be optimistic. What does those two situations have in common??? They both made bones on scout team and they both had Justin to depend on to get them over the hump. They both trust Justin because they have really good chemistry and they trust Justin to make plays. Now it's going to be his turn to step up. There's no doubt in my mind he can do it because I know him. Before he went back to school all he could talk about was GDay...see yall soon.    Like Quote Reply Report

Changing your basic coverage style from grabby to only mildly-grabby is a verrrrrry difficult thing to do. It doesn't usually go well.

Gronkowski went at #42 after Patriots traded up to get him. He was the BEST player on the draft boards of some teams, and not far below that for many others. His back injury in college was the issue. Should have been a 1st Round Pick. He turned out pretty good.
George Kittle was the best TE in his class.. IMHO, but went in the 5th Rd. after about seven other TEs were drafted.
Drafting TEs is like shooting craps....  the game is ever evolving also.  Not sure I want a TE at 4 but for the right one, for the right team/offense, it might be worth the squeeze. A lot depends on the person you get, not just the athleticism.
