yeah, hard to argue w/ that deal.   Back-up QB with his experience under $2mm/yr if fair.

I am pleasantly surprised by this. Was really hoping it wasn't more than $2 mil a year, but to be under that plus only 750k guaranteed is a nice deal.

Keep Beasley and cut M Sanu and the shet hits the fan. TD and DQ have put their nuts in a bench vise with most of the Atl fan base ready to turn the handle clockwise.

The Falcons are in a great spot imo. Vic and Grady are both on one year deals basically. If both are deemed replaceable after this year, that clears up 27mil and nets the Falcons two 3rd round comp picks next offseason. Big fan of this result actually.

We can’t do anything in FA because of the extra $1.46M in cap room Julio’s extension took up? Fusco was signed prior to any contract machinations regarding Julio.
...and ship sailed on the Julio trade being a bad move during Obama’s first term.

We went 4-12 man. We did not play better with Julio gone. Stop that.

My point is, Julio has easily been the best player on the falcons for over 6 years now and definitely a top 10 overall NFL player. Last off-season he was crucified on these boards for simply wanting more money.

Exactly. Grady is going to get a long-term deal that is reasonable to the market.
Does that mean he was going to wait for AD not to reset the market and thereby put us in offseason negotiations mode? This wasn't an extension to help our cap. This was Grady wanting to wait for his chance to get a contract year under his belt and THEN talk. That's exactly how it played out this last year.
Let's blame TD and the FO for Grady having to be tagged tho without further details such as actual numbers.

Through no fault of Julio’s without the guy we don’t get too the game.
Hood ornaments so Montana didn’t need Rice Aikman didn’t need Irvin Rodgers didn’t need Nelson or Jennings.
I mean what you bring up NE but then flat out refuse to mention what’s gone on in history past.
Not needing good WRers is just not true there scattered in amongst many good SB teams.

Bro. Make no mistake about it I just want one thing. REST. If I can get it I won't make a fuss. Trust me. I need it. I'm tired. I already posted that if we can get rest I promise to wear a Troffed T-Shirt to the parade.

False economy have a look when it mattered in the money games who carried the Falcons?
Who put the Falcons in position in the SB to win the game the much maligned Freeman and Julio.
Who carried the Falcons the NFCCG and shut the dome down.
You say we don’t need Jones to win your wrong.
The Falcons are a much easier team to defend without Jones.
Go have a look at opposing DCs tip sheets I bet Julio Jones is at the top of every one of them.

Lol @ thinking you can pick and choose who are 'td picks' and who isn't.

Favorite player? Dude is a top 20 player in the league and tops at his position. He also shows up when the lights are bright, which other WRs have shown to shrink in.
Yall on here talking like Julio is just another dude.

I am fine with losing Grady after this year, but Deion Jones is worth his weight in gold.
Most important player on the whole defense.

smart move ....Deion Jones is SPECIAL ... To me he and Neal are the 2 that makes our Defense different.. There skillset

If you can possibly lock him up now at 10-12 mil before the beginning of the year.. do it and sleep well atnight.. push some of his signing bonus onto this low cap year.... win win

He might be the one guy who people really can’t claim is replaceable lol. There’s no one else like him in the league. Glad we’re trying to get a jump on his contract.

Report: Falcons begin contract negotiations with 2020 free agent Deion Jones
2 Getting a jump on signing their most essential defender is a great idea.

The Falcons have long been one of the better teams in the NFL when it comes to getting deals done early. This offseason thus far has been an object lesson in what can happen if you can’t get that done, as Vic Beasley will be here for $12.8 million on a one year deal and Grady Jarrett was just given the franchise tag as the team tries to get something long-term done.
Given that, it’s no great surprise that the Falcons are already opening up contract talks with Deion Jones, their star middle linebacker and the next huge contract heading their way. Debo won’t be a free agent until after the 2019 season, but avoiding a situation where the team needs to consider a tag or even letting Jones walk is paramount given his importance to this defense.
Consider this: Debo will only be 25 years old in 2019, and while he’s coming off a major injury, he was still a phenomenal player in just six games. He managed 53 tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions, a forced fumbles, a sack, and a defensive touchdown over that span despite clearly being a little rusty, and the two seasons prior he managed over 100 tackles, three interceptions, and over 10 pass deflections. His speed and athleticism mean he can get involved in plays he’s light years away from when they begin, his instincts are so good he can make life miserable for opposing offenses, and he’s still young enough to get even better. The defense simply isn’t as fast and physical without him, and he’s arguably the single most crucial defender the Falcons have.
There’s little question Jones will be looking to blow by Luke Kuechly for the most lucrative inside linebacker contract in the NFL, which means north of $12.35 million in annual average value. The Falcons will be challenged to do that with their current cap situation, but aside from retaining the likes of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Grady Jarrett, it’s the most essential signing they can possibly get done. I fully expect them to, and I’m glad they’re starting relatively early.
Hopefully, the negotiations with Jones will proceed apace and the team will have him locked up before the 2019 season ever begins.

Drop a 26 year old for a 31 year old for more money? Makes all the sense in the world...

You have to remember, its the Falcons, we always give talent a lot more money than they deserve.  Trufant, Alford, Schreader, Freeman for that matter.  They have a hard time understanding who actually wins games for them.  Dimarco, Toilolo etc..
