First of all, your entire response is based on the assumption that you understand more of the game than someone else.  Second, I never said that Ryan was "at fault", which are your words.  What I said was that if we ran the ball more, we would have won.  That has unequivocally been proven.  Third, you assume you understand the process of moving a play from a script, or from the OC on the sideline, to the QB on the field.  You do not.
Yes, the QB has the ability to change a play in the huddle.  It is done a lot, and for a number of reasons.  The QB should know the playbook as well as the OC and know what can be run out of personnel packages on the field.  There is never a play that is purely a run only, or pass only play.  I can't, in one post, explain to you the fundamental reasons why this is, but it is pretty elementary and a basis for football strategy.  Also, I never said change the play at the line.  That is an entirely different beast and probably is based on your assumption of the game and correlation to Madden, which by the way, I don't play.
Ryan, who had been in the NFL for 8-years, should have known the tempo of the game better anyone on the field or watching on TV.  He could easily see that the time of position was greatly shifting to the Pats and that we were running repeated 3 and outs.  If you read my post again, you will note that I said all we had to do was run the ball four additional times and not make a single yard, all things being equal, and we would have run the clock out.  If we made a couple of first downs during those runs, the game was over before it got close.  The injuries to our O line are part of the game.  Unless you really want to explain how it is less physically demanding on an O lineman to pass block rather than run block.  That is a moronic assumption and your statement is invalid based on it being illogical.
So let me restate my post a little more clearly.  Ryan, who was on the field and has a pretty good understanding of our offense and how long it takes to run plays, should have somewhere around the beginning to middle of the fourth quarter realized that the Pats needed to be slowed down.  Every person on the planet, who knows anything about football, has said repeatedly that all we needed to do to control the clock was run the ball.  Not score, or make first downs, just eat the extra 25 - 30 seconds it takes run the ball, and we would have won.  Ryan is not exempt from this because he is the QB or because you think otherwise.  He is the one person, without doubt, that at any point in a game can make a decision with the offense and change the outcome of a game.
So, I do believe that at some point in the fourth quarter, when Ryan was walking to the huddle and got a call from Shanahan for another pass play, should have used the run play designed for the personnel package he had in the game at the time, and eaten 25 to 30 seconds off the clock.  If he did that four times, we would have won.

BC, it's worse than that.  If all things were equal, and I realize that they wouldn't be, but if they were.  All we had to do was run the ball four more times the whole second half and the time it takes off the clock would have won the game.  Even if we didn't make a yard on any of those runs.  Now, NE would have played more up tempo if they were running out of time, but if any of those four runs lead to a first down and we had a new set of downs, we win easily.  If we ran say eight more times and got two first downs on any of those three and outs, we would have won by two scores.
I lost all faith in DQ after that game.  I always new Shanahan was a great OC, but still thought he was an *******.  That game confirmed it.  I also lost a lot of respect for Ryan that game.  He should have been able to feel the shift in momentum and knows the game as well as anyone on the sideline.  Just call a running play.  He knew the playbook well enough to figure out a run that would have been effective.  Going into the fourth quarter, everyone knew that Shanahan was on a ego trip.  They weren't going to pull Ryan out of the game and even if they did, we would have had to run anyway.  Ryan should have manned up and called his game.  It's his team.

I don’t care about a stupid win rate. All of these made up stats mean buttcheeks. Get value for him, blow it up at edge. Start over with less crap.

Yeah, because any part of the game is effected by pass rush win rate.  WTF is that anyway?  His QB pressure rate is not in the top ten.  His sack rate is not in the top 10.  Nor his tackles, or assists, or tackle for loss, or deflected balls.

Agreed.  We are going to have to pay him anyway.  i'd rather have a couple of high picks and have him come off the books in '21 when those picks are still on rookie contracts.
  17. rugger8 liked a post in a topic by schwarzenegger321 in Would you trade Julio?
Absolutely would trade him.  At this point, even for a first and another high pick.  His 22 million a year is absolutely stupid and we have to dump two or three of these big contracts if we have any intention of being competitive in the near future.  Freeman will be a post June 1st cut.  Need to shed Julio's contract and either Grady's or Mack's.  Get as many 1st and 2nd round picks as possible and maybe we have a shot in 22 if Ryan stays healthy and can still compete as a high level.
