FalconJim reacted to Atlantafan21 in Dave Ragone Is Favorite to Be OC
Passing game coordinator for the bears does not excite me at all. Anything else that he’s done?

@JD dirtybird21dirtybird21 I think it's about time to bring the drinking game back

If Matt Ryan had exciting runs but threw 30 INT's a season I think alot of this fanbase would be happy keeping him forever.

QBs don't win chips. Great teams do.
You obviously would want a team BUILT around a new QB right?
Or...is it you are of the belief the only way to get a win is keep everything the same and change QBs?
Look, I get wanting a new QB. Ryan is old school model. It's not about him though.
We could be here in a few months, new QB drafted and SF lined up to trade for Matt post-6/1 to make it financially POSSIBLE...and I'll hope for the best for both Matt and the new QB, but until we cross that road I'm behind a less volatile/more stable approach.
Matt has been good enough to win a SB with. Period.
Team building and coaching has been off. Period.
And, despite being a "ryan fan" thats about as objective as I can put it.

I’ve mentioned before, no rookie HC is gonna want a rookie QB. They’ll take a quality proven vet all day.

How is this for a hot take:
Maybe Matt Ryan is a good QB.
The end.

FalconJim reacted to 1989Fan in You can tell that the Falcons are going to try to keep Matt Ryan until he retires.
And how the heck do you know that?
I agree he is gonna be here, but the idea they are only interviewing coaches that would be a good fit is nuts. The Bowles scenario being for Matt is the richest though.
truth is Matt Ryan is good for almost any offense, minus DKs who would make any QB look like shiot. Folks are so determined to **** on him though and run him out of town for whatever reason, the refuse to believe it.

Tbh if the Falcons sign Hackett, then I think that's a sign they are sticking with Matt and the GMs plan was that as well.
It's a much easier transition for the offense

He seems to be learning from his past and improving. Haha
I could get behind Hackett. Mainly because my wife is a GB fan, and I could rub it in that we stole her guy. Haha
Smack down would be on at my house.

there are a lot of bright offensive minds that we can get to be head coaches - Daboll, Smith, Brady, Hackett, etc. - getting these guys ensures you have a good playcaller - the key is "Do any of these guys also have the right stuff to be head coaches?" You gotta get both. I look at OCs as more sophisticated egg-head types and DCs as more neanderthal cavemen types - both have their plusses and minuses when it comes to being a Head Coach.
I really do want an OC who has a great design of offense, adaptable and play-calling - just need him to have the type of leadership, hiring ability and management styles to work with an entire team. Not an easy transition for ANYONE who has never done it before. Remember, even the greatest HC of all time - Bill Belicheck - got fired by the Cleveland Browns.

Years as OC DVOA Rankings
JAX
2016: 27th
2017: 15th
2018: 30th
GB
2019: 8th
2020: 1st
How much of his struggle in Jax was bad QB play and overall bad roster, how much of his success in GB is Rodgers / LaFleur? Not leaning either way but some food for thought.

It’s hard to judge Hackett when he was OC with the Bills and Jags bc his QBs were EJ manual, Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel, Kyle Orton and Blake bortles.

I like Hackett. Really high football IQ and great personality.

I think Fields will be there for us without over-reaching --- thai is, if, we want to take a QB --- and I'm O.K. with that!

FalconJim reacted to ya_boi_j in Will the Falcons trade Julio Jones prior to week 1?
As of right now, and this is going to hurt me to say because i really, really love Julio, I wouldn't be upset if they were able to move him this offseason. The offense moved the exact same without him as they did with him if we're being honest. Ridley has ALOT to improve on whether we choose to accept it or not but with the receiving core available right now and a better offensive scheme, i don't see a major drop off without Julio. I know i'll get flamed for saying that but hey, gotta be honest sometimes

FalconJim reacted to thanat0s in Will the Falcons trade Julio Jones prior to week 1?
Matt is almost impossible to trade without getting someone to eat part of his dead cap. You'd have a tough time even filling out a roster if you did it. Julio is a different story.
This is probably the only year left that he has any real trade value. The right team might even give you a low 1st round pick (Baltimore?). You'll be paying him anyway and frankly, he's expendable. A luxury we don't need at this point. Better to get a low 1 or mid-high 2 and put that into the defense.

Im sure there there will be lot of debate surrounding Hackett. One of the first known candidates linked to the Falcons.
