He’s a great run defender, had the highest run defense grade of ALL CBs IN THE LEAGUE last year. I think he was pretty clutch too.

    Jamaal Anderson.
Hometown Calvin no trade up (Hindsight It's a good thing considering what we would have likely had to give up and then the situation with Vick and us being awful next year.  Had we traded up we would not have gotten Ryan the year after)
AP goes 1 pick before us.
Patrick Willis and Darrell Revis on the board.
We end up with Jamaal Anderson.
I remember begging for Willis or a trade down for Beason and then to get Anderson and to watch Beason end up in Carolina...Pain

Mond & Mills would both be excellent options to learn behind Ryan for 2 years and allow us to still get a top player like Pitts.

shock reacted to BLM in SMH Falcons drafting TE at 4th...Really BAD start for new Regime
If Falcons draft Kyle Pitts at 4th, this regime is already doomed.  While I am in the camp that would like to see us draft Fields or Lance and ideally Fields, with Ryan's restructure, it just doesn't completely make sense to draft a QB.  So I am open to drafting at another position.

But a TE?  Come on man!

I don't care how good a TE is, a TE is not worth more than a WR.  Just look at player salaries.  The top WRs earn about $10M more than TEs.  There is 0, I mean 0, justification to draft a TE when you can grab someone like Chase, Waddle or Smith.  0 rationale.  A 3rd WR can run routes in the middle and can run any route a TE can.  Just look at the Rams and their 3 WR set.  Or the Packers.  Many good offenses don't have a dominant TE but instead know how to get a 3rd WR involved.   And with Julio Jones imminent retirement, a WR just makes sense.  TEs are like RBs.  Only transcendent players are worth a 1st rounder.  Top talents should only be had in the early second round.
Additionally, TEs take a while to develop.  I am talking 2 or 3 years.  WRs can make an impact in their first year.  Just look at the TEs drafted in the 1st, and their production in the first few years.  Noah Fant, Evan Engram, OJ Howard, Hayden Hurst, etc... All of these guys have had more hype than production.   Unless Pitts is a transcendent TE, there is absolutely 0 reason to draft him in the first round.  0.  If we restructure Ryan, that means our goal is to win now.  Drafting a TE in the first is NOT a win now move.  It's bad if you commit to Ryan, won't draft a QB, but instead end up drafting a TE, which basically suggests that you are still looking to win 3 years out as opposed to today, but choose a position of MUCH LESS importance.  If we need more weapons on offense, WR is the only choice if the goal is to win now.
And guess what, Pitts is NOT a transcendent TE.  Do you know why that is?  Well, a TE is a TE because a TE can block.  Pitts cannot block.  Read any scouting report, and it'll say that Pitts has issues in pass protection.  He is just ok at run blocking.
What this means is that Pitts is a large sized, glorified WR, and not a true TE.  Why draft a large WR, when you can draft an actual WR?  An actual WR will be much better at catching, route running, and gaining separation.  It's one thing if Pitts blocking ability makes up for not having elite route running.  But Pitts doesn't have that blocking ability.
If Falcons draft Kyle Pitts in the 1st, that along with hiring Chicago Bears OC and QB coaches (Bears have yet to develop a QB or run any sort of creative offense), along with Blank/McKay only planning to hire a coach that was willing to keep Ryan around (despite their misleading public statements), are already laying the groundwork for another average 5 years before we inevitably find another new coaching regime.

Pitts to Atlanta is just the perfect fit. He’d be playing under a TE loving play calling head coach. He’d have one of the goats in Julio to learn from. And Ridley is there to help elevate his route running even further than it already is.

I love this fit for us and would be ecstatic if we end up taking him at 4.

Yeah we don’t have the cap space for either of those guys. We can’t even afford our rookie draft class as of right now.

I don’t know if we’d trade before the draft... if they really want Trey Lance there’s definitely a chance he’s there at 4. Might have to wait for draft night unless someone offers up a ton of picks and we can’t say no.

Wouldn't the trade be a lot more likely to include just picks because of the cap situation?

I’ve been on the Pitts at 4 bandwagon for weeks now. Let’s make it happen.
Imagine this 20 year old phenom learning from one of the goats. Julio would be invaluable for Pitts to learn how to be a pro. Calvin is 26 and has been successful as well. Julio had Roddy & Tony G to learn from. Pitts would have Julio & Ridley.

Dimitroff would draft obvious no name busts in the 3rd round. Once we got to day 3 I was mentally prepared that we were going to draft a bunch of guys who we could’ve got as UDFA. I hope TF sticks to his BPA mantra all 7 rounds.

Nope...people just lining up the scapegoat for when their guy doesn’t get picked. They were mentioning Pioli though when the picks panned out, but not when they were bad picks (that was all TD, even in the same draft 😂)

shock reacted to direwolf in What Pitts could do in Arthur's Smith Offense
I'm sitting here envisioning 13 personnel with Pitts, Hurst, and Smith (who CAN catch in an emergency) and Julio or Ridley as the receiver with a single running back. I'm seeing entire series of no-huddle because there's enough blocking in there with Smith that we could run darn near anything and never let the defense substitute since we'd never sub.
Three TE bunch with WR isolated, Pitts and WR split out with Hurst and Smith in tight, tight running formation with a single split out... on and on. You could go multiple series with that personnel alignment without ever running the same play twice. You could run a dozen different plays out of just one formation. The defense would never know what was coming and Ryan could audible to his heart's content based on how the defense lined up.
Could be a thing of beauty.
