One thing I saw recently that differentiates this regime from anything I’ve seen since Reeves was here was when Smith was asked about Frank Darby saying if no one else sets the tone he will. Mora, Smith, Dimitroff, McKay and Quinn would have gushed about such a great attitude. That’s what we’re looking for. Etc.
Smith said “let’s see if Frank can line up where he’s supposed to and run his route correctly and then we’ll see what kind of tone he sets.”
No nonsense. Didn’t tear the player down, but he ain’t crowning a 6th round rookie as team captain either. It was a great response.

Julio made the most sense as a trade candidate. Unlike others, he could be traded and still leave us at a good spot at his position. The current state of his contract also made him the least harmful to our cap to move him. He also is one that you could see for many reasons new coaches wondering about how long they'd plan to keep him on the roster anyway, and the Belichick way has always been to trade players at their peak, rather than wait for them to lose value. Many on here have always wanted us to do things like that, but doing so leads to tough decisions like these. You sometimes end up losing valued players.

With a 17-game season they should 8-home, 8-away and 1-neutral field, be it Mexico, London or somewhere else.

Having Julio helps with everything except salary cap.

I really think having Julio for at least this year will really help with the transition to Arthur’s scheme.

Yep, not having "their guys" means they can come in with clear eyes and decide who is actually the best player for the job rather than sticking with someone out of loyalty.  It is the only way we get the best 22 on the field.    I just hope that AS doesn't eventually fall into the same trap DQ did over time.. where he sticks with his guys no matter what as opposed to keeping the mindset of "may the best player win."

It helps coming in that no one on the roster is one of "their guys".  They have no undue loyalty to anyone.  Hopefully this mindset stays true.

I think Pees will find ways to apply pressure from places other than just the d-line, which went against DQs philosophy (despite never having an adequate d-line to run his defense).  We’ll see if that plays out.

    This x 10000

Pees has basically said this over & over... that EVERYONE will have to be able to blitz because he plans on bringing it from all over in order to keep opposing QBs guessing. So unlike previous years where it was 95% all on the shoulders of guys like Beasley, Takk, and occasionally Grady to get pressure, it seems like it will be more of a team effort than a one or two player/position responsibility.

I'm also aware of Fowler not consistently showing enough in the NFL at this point to be counted on too much, but I do think last year was a very humbling experience for him. He has the tools, and has produced well before, so hopefully he's able to maximize his potential under Pees.

The key for us will be defending the seams and middle of the field.
Thats the biggest areas we have addressed this off season thus far.
We have vet experience which is a good thing.
The draft outside of the top 2-3 picks feels like a sidebar.
Coaching is #1 for us if we are to see marked improvement.
