  1. I just don't see this team beating up on the Eagles, so an 0-2 start is highly likely imo. You can't start the season that way and stay positive for long, especially after not winning a game in the preseason and the way the season ended last year. I'd be happy to just see the offense score a few touchdowns against the Eagles really, if they can do that against the dream team, even if the defense gets trounced by Vick at home, it's better than what they did today by a long shot! I just don't see the defense having ANY answers for Vick, his WR's, our their running game. I love Jones and all but TD should have probably picked up some top talent for his struggling defense over landing the star WR who was quite costly and in TD's own words was suppose to put us over the hump. Our current defense is just too big of a hump, way bigger than TD realized imo and that makes me wonder what he was thinking. Bet he's got buyers remorse right about now (to some degree).
  2. Yeah, after this sad effort from the defense (which was no shock) and the offense (which was), I think next week things will only get worse. It's not going to be a lick of fun watching Vick return to the dome and light it up on Grimes, Decoud, and the rest of the secondary! I know one thing, TD will be asked a lot of questions this week about why he didn't use the draft to repair his secondary and went after a very costly WR instead, who by the way was only marginally better than "Stinkin' Jenkins" in his first game as a Falcon. I know he will be a beast for us for years but when it was so obvious the past couple of years that the defense had glaring holes in it, we needed more help there than at WR, even if Jenkins needed to go! If things go as expected against the dream team, Smith is going to be wondering if his job is secure, that's for sure! I don't expect a ton really, especially after what I saw in the preseason and yet again today, but I'm afraid it's going to be a long season of hearing how overrated we are.
  3. We better hope it's not serious because the Niners are looking to punish us for their lousy start and to prevent an 0-4 start. I much rather see Spoon out there over any of our other LB's! We need to get more pressure of a QB this week for sure and try for some turnovers. I want to see someone break Crabtree in half for sure, either Spoon, Lofton, or Peterson. I'd also like to see my favorite Falcon get on the field more, Finneran should be getting some more passes his way imo, especially with Ryan's accuracy still not where it should be. HD seems to have a case of the drops early on and Finni NEVER has a case of that, and his big frame can block well down field!! The oline needs to make some bigger holes for Turner also, way too many stuffs behind the line or at the line for my taste. The line looks better with Snelling, who seems to be outperforming Turner early imo. What's up with Ovie also, he was getting knocked around last week BADLY. Might be a good idea to draft a slightly bigger and a much better blocking FB who can be more consistent for our run game. Consistent is not what I would call Ovie. We must protect Ryan this week as well, it's going to be a tough game for sure, and could be a HUGE win for us after getting very lucky last week.
  4. Steelers always get the calls at home!! We'll have to beat the refs to in this one!
  5. Love to see Turner benched for the rest of this one and let Smith give it a shot, not Norwood, he might get hurt too soon!
  6. Wonder who we should have picked over Baker!!!
  7. Ryan is still not sharp with all the incompletions (almost as many as he completed) and Turner can't run the ball period, might be nice to see another RB give it a try to change it up and save Turner from injury. The secondary is still awful as well but we knew that already.
  8. I think they will keep Smith where he is, since it's a given that Norwood will be injured at some point and they will need him to fill in and they already have RB-Nance on the PS. I'd go with Bruggeman going to the PS.
  9. I never had a doubt the Steelers would start Dixon over Batch, like everyone in the NFL, they are well aware of our issues on defense and would be stupid to not go with the more mobile QB. I have a feeling he could cause us a whole lot of problems from what I've seen from Smith's squad so far this pre-season. I just pray we can blitz him to death and help out our still shaky secondary, that isn't as fixed as I had hoped for after last season's bottom of the league effort. I think it's a must we blitz more against all of our opponents so Grimes and company aren't picked apart on a weekly basis. One thing is for sure, we will have a good idea of just how improved our defensive unit is after the addition of Spoon, once this game is over. I hope to see the dline start off well, with Jerry getting involved quickly after the disappointment of last year, along with Kroy my Boy and Abe. I just have a feeling the only thing that will help the secondary, is for the front seven to be absolutely dominant.
  10. I look forward to seeing Moore take over for Coleman asap! After last season, I think Moore is much better prepared to take the reins and show TD and coach he's our future at safety.
  11. I heard they cut Gabe Derricks, hate to hear that with all the issues we've had at the position.
  12. I don't see Peterson being on the field as much after last year. Nic had issues for sure also but I'd say he got a bit better as the season progressed where Peterson did not.
  13. I'd rather HD remain out until he's truely ready than to rush it anyway. I think Meier can come in and play well for us in place of HD, if he to can stay healthy. I think with Meier and Peters, we drafted some solid insurance, we just need to squash the the injury bug. It seems to be following us quite closely here lately!
  14. I'd Rather have Williams on the field over Grimes for sure but I do agree that we have drafted too many CB's lately for them to not be starting by now or soon. We missed the boat with Houston for sure but fixed that situation by signing Robinson, now we just need to get one of the youngsters to step up and take the other side of the field for himself! I was hoping Franks and Owens would step up during camp and show us something. Can't wait to see them get started soon!
  15. Not sure JPW is all that much better than DJ but since Shockley wasn't ever going to get any kind of playing time behind Ryan and Redman, I'd rather he go somewhere he will get a chance at playing ball, even if it's in the UFL.
  16. Even Rossum's return game couldn't save his HORRIBLE efforts at CB. I don't think I've ever seen a player do some of the idiotic things I witnessed Rossum do on the field, especially in the good old prevent defense where the QB constantly picked on his side. I mean he makes Grimes look like he knows what he's doing out there. I say pass on that one day contract!
  17. I'm all for him being a stud for us down the road and think he will make the team but would rather see Finni finish up his career with us on a high note first, staying injury free, and putting up solid numbers. After that Meier can take his spot and run with it! Now if he wants to snag stinkin' Jenkins spot, I'm good with that, cause he doesn't seem to go all out on a weekly basis.
  18. Jenkins, to me, has been a HUGE disappointment and with HD coming back from injury I'd think his numbers will probably go down even more. With some nice new additions at the position as well and Finni on the way out (unfortunately), Jenkins better get his act together or he could find himself dropped in the depth chart.
  19. Regardless of Grimes actual size, he looks five foot seven on the field and at times smaller when playing a six foot four WR. I see no reason why Owens shouldn't be able to take his job with ease this year. I could have sworn there were several six foot CB's in the draft but unfortunately we didn't go after them. If I were a coach and most every team I played against was stocked with mostly six foot and bigger WR's, I'd want my CB's to be at the very least six foot. I would like to think CB's who are under five foot ten are a thing of the past since WR's aren't really getting smaller these days. As for Coleman, he has never impressed me on the field and I can only hope Moore finally stays healthy so he can take his spot on the field. I was high on Nicholas when he was drafted but he also hasn't impressed me and believe if he doesn't improve his play (especially in coverage), he could find himself mostly on ST's. I was hoping we would add more LB depth in the draft with Peterson looking his age last year and Nicholas not very effective but maybe the coaches can get more out of him this year. The best way to help one of the worst secondaries in the nfl is to improve the play of the front seven, so hopefully Smith gets them much improved no matter who starts.
  20. I have no desire to see Grimes on the field unless it's in a nickel or dime package. Much rather see Owens start with Robinson. As for Coleman, I've never thought he was all that good for us, so if Moore can stay healthy and get his spot that would be great as well. Smith knows all to well how bad is secondary has been of late and will be hard pressed to rise them from the bottom of the rankings.
  21. Peters can make a huge impact this year, especially with Perry coming back.
  22. I'd like to see Sid and Kroy my Boy to really step it up this season and maybe we don't have to use the first pick on a DE. Be nice if JA could work out at DT after is output at DE but if not I think we have some nice young options to work with at the position now. Be sweet to nab Green with our first (even if we have to move up to get him) and then get another solid OLB to play across from Spoon with our next pick.
  23. I think a lot of teams did well for themselves in this year's draft which was stocked with talent and I really liked what we did, nice to know Pat feels the same way.
  24. The Hawks are close but not quite there yet, maybe a few players away I think. The Braves should have fired Cox years ago and they could be a much better team right now, more than several players away imo (I also wish Ted still owned the team). The Thrashers are only close to making the playoffs and certainly a few players away from being a very good team. I'd say the Falcons are easily the best of the bunch and should make the playoffs this year, just not sure how far they go.
  25. I certainly have no desire seeing Grimes as one of our starting CB's so I'm interested in any battle he's involved in. On the oline I'd go with mainly Dahl vs Johnson and Clabo vs Reynolds. Coleman vs Moore looks to be a good one as do the Peterson/Nicholas vs Spoon and Weems vs Meirer.
