    Makes sense.
Mack-age, Gurley-arthritic knee, Neal- recovering from last year’s injury.
I don’t think this involves anything we didn’t already know.

    Clowney (6 years)
    32 sacks & 8 forced fumbles
(he's never had a double digit sack season)

    Beasley (5 years)
    37.5 sacks & 11 forced fumbles

When I look at that, it's really hard to see what you're seeing in Clowney to think he'd somehow finally "break out in sacks" and become a pass rushing force here at this stage in his career. If the dude couldn't do it when teams were having to focus on JJ Watt, he's probably just not what he was hyped up to be. I mean, Beasley put up substantially better numbers in terms of big impact plays, and he did it in one less year than Clowney. That's the dude you want? Seriously?

He has a vested interest in finding something to light the fire under him. If he was on the other side of the transaction, he'd make the same call. God bless the young man. I hope he goes off this season and gets a good deal next season from us or somebody else. What I don't want is for him to win the 2021 Sam Baker Award, granted (along with a big contract) to a young man who showed glimpses of potential, failed to reach it due to injury for three years, balled his *** off in his contract year, and then proved he was always only the guy we saw in the first three years of his career.

Better runners? Yes. The issue is Koetter vs Kyle. Coleman is not that good of a RB. Terrible vision and play through contact. But he's a monster in space and Kyle got him in space as much as he could. Koetter is an idiot. Gurley and Co are going to have to overcome Koetter's stupidity every snap.

djbrough reacted to FalconsIn2012 in How Many Bad Contracts Have The Falcons Done In The Past 4 Years?
Most FA signings are not great contracts.  Even with regards to in house signings, it is tough for a player to play up to the value of his 2nd contract.  Ideally you use FA on guys like Freeney, Clayborn, Crawford, Malloy and Cornelius Bennett...or one year deals like Pow & Gurley are great, too.  But once you start getting into 3-4 year deals it becomes risky
See Carp, Brown, Ty as our most recent examples.

djbrough reacted to takeitdown in What are the chances Dan Quinn becomes an excellent head coach one day?
Yeah, I was going to say I buy that if he had kept a top 10 defense.  The way around being a great strategist is if you have a user friendly low cost (draft position) style of play and you can spot talent to fit it.  If Quinn had been able to do this on D, then he'd be good enough to be a solid coach.  But he has been obviously unable to do that.
Seattle has completely retooled and remained good on D, while we've never really been able to create a solid D.
I just don't see what the special thing is that he brings.

Just sick of hearing about Takk tbh. People can talk pressure all they want but dude was garbage against the run last year. Worse than Beasley, and I mean that. Almost singlehandedly responsible for 100+ rushing yards that first game against Minnesota. Just plays hero ball like crazy. He's a JAG pass rush specialist until he proves otherwise. Period.
Hope he balls out and gets dummy money to play somewhere else next year.

Ok, after seeing the run on CB in the first, I have come to peace with AJ Terrell.
looks like a run on RBs are next and we have a good shot at an awesome safety now, with none off the board. This draft could end up halfway decent

    Here's how I would conduct tonight's draft.
Stand pat at 16 If Kinlaw, Brown, or Henderson fall to 16, then take them there If more than 1 is available, take the DL first If none of them are there, trade back into the late first round and go safety (Delpit, McKinney) If we make a pick at 16, Go Safety in the second round. (Chinn, Davis, Dugger or Winfield) ****Very Important, as I project all satisfactory safeties to be gone by the end of round 2. Go Corner in the third.(Dantzler, Ojemudia, Hall) - Dantzler is my favorite choice behind Okudah and Henderson. Go EDGE and LB (or OL) in the fourth (Edge = Taylor, Willekes, Highsmith, Jennings, Robinson. LB = Dye, Davion Taylor, Gay, Strnad) If we trade back and get a safety in round 1 Best DE available with the first pick in round 2 (YGM, Lewis, and possibly Epenesa or Chaisson) Best DL available with the second pick in round 2 (Elliott, Blacklock, Madibuike, Gallimore, Davis) Go Corner in the third.(Dantzler, Ojemudia, Hall) - Dantzler is my favorite choice behind Okudah and Henderson. Go LB and OL in the fourth (LB = Dye, Davion Taylor, Gay, Strnad. OL = Muti, Baidasz, Hennessy, Harris, Sternberg, Lemieux) Best player available in the 7th. Sign Blankenship, Bryce Huff, Calvin Throckmorton, Michael Divinity, Levonta Taylor (FS), and one of the Davis twins as UFA's)
