Crump was the man...one of my favorite falcons from that 2002-2006 era. He wasnt a game wrecker, but seemed to have less trouble getting meaningful YAC than Hoop.
Hooper had 1 baller YAC game, against the Bears a few years ago when he looked unstoppable in the open field.
Crump in his 7 seasons here combined had 13.3 yards/reception.
    Hoop averaged 10.5
Crump had 27 games of 3+ receptions as a Falcon where he averaged over 13 yards/catch.
    Hoop.....5
    -----------------------------
Its also how we used Hoop vs Crump....Crump was often down the seem or on deep curl routes where Vick's rocket arm would crack it in there....Hoop was more of a 6-9 yard curl  or out in the flat kinda guy.

Crumpler was definitely a legit/pretty elite tight end. Vick’s number one target. Actually probably pretty similar to Hoopers athleticism but the difference is that defenses were slower back then so Crumpler could take advantage

2004-2005 literally the ONLY receiving option we had and he constantly put up huge numbers and got open. Defenses had to respect him.

This is a hard one to judge.  He did nothing spectacular.  Even Gonzales did some highlight worthy plays once in a while.  But, he was very sure handed, ran good routes, and was tough to bring down if he was in full stride.  He was good.  He changed games but did so in small increments.  That resulted in some wins we would not have without him.

Tak is good... but hasn’t quite lived up to his first round selection, sure. Probably deserving of like an 80 overall in Madden if I had to say. That saying... I think dudes going to ball out this year. Even if this is his last year as a Falcon, I’ll be excited to see him go out with a bang. I’m pulling for him just like all players who sport the Falcons.

Regardless of head issues, he's not a first-round draft pick, so he doesn't fit our new criteria.

Harrington and Leftwich played a major role in Roddy becoming a productive receiver along with Joe Horn. Playing with Vick, Roddy was headed for the door

Not completely. If people remember correctly, as soon as either would start to get better, Pigtrino would literally bench them for the other guy. It was ridiculous.

I hate that I agree with this but I kind of do. The Falcons are gonna have to earn the fan hype this year.

I love the confidence...and I don’t think he is wrong

"I'll Go With Myself" - NFC South QB Says He's the Best in the Division - EssentiallySports

The NFC South will see a strong battle between its quarterbacks this season. Among the many great quarterbacks in the division, there are two Super Bowl Champions and MVPs. But, another quarterback thinks he is better than the others there.

Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan thinks he is the best QB in NFC South.  Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Matt Ryan recently said on ‘Pardon My Take‘ Podcast that he believes he’s the best quarterback in the NFC South. “Currently, yeah, I’ll go with myself“, he said when the question was popped.
“He knew he could get roasted for it… Although in fairness, he is the best quarterback right now in the division,” said Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. Other starting quarterbacks in the division include Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, and Taysom Hill.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Ryan was named the NFL MVP in 2016. He has 51,186 passing yards and 321 touchdowns in his 12-year career so far. Dan Katz, the man who interviewed Matt Ryan, later said that “he’s awesome. He’s awesome to talk to.”
    Why Ryan may be right
Katz added that Matt Ryan is amongst the most underrated quarterbacks in the NFL. “If you look at his career… since 2008, there has only been one time that Matt Ryan has finished out of the top ten in QBR,” the analyst said. Ryan has been in the top 10 quarterbacks for a long time, “and it’s crazy that we just kind of forget about [him].” On this, Matt Ryan said that he understands that “the status [only] comes from” a quarterback’s performance in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. “That’s the nature of how people see it right now,” the quarterback said. Thus, being underrated doesn’t bother him very much.
“It’s almost as if that loss in the Super Bowl [LI] after they were up 28-3 disqualifies him from any future consideration,” added Florio. Analyst and former quarterback, Chris Simms recently came out with his list of top 40 quarterbacks and put Ryan in 7th place. Brady and Brees, in comparison, were 15th and 16th respectively.
Mike Florio agrees that Matt Ryan is the best quarterback in the NFC South. Tom Brady will be 43 this year and may not do as well as he has been doing for so long. “I’m saying Matt Ryan is going to be better than him and maybe, Brady will be number two. But I just think the ability to be at that highest possible level, it’s not there anymore,” Florio said.
Whether Ryan will be better than Brady, we’ll know only as the 2020 season gets underway and progresses. And, our best chance to decide shall come in December when the two quarterbacks will be up against each other.

Captain Falcon reacted to FalconsIn2012 in Offense Needs A Bit More Conservative Playcalling
Just did some digging into our offense compared to division winners since 2008.  A few things jump off the page.  First & Foremost, urnovers still decide most NFL games.  When we have been really good in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 we did two things well: we are top 10 in  scoring drive % and bottom 10 in TO%.  Same goes for every division winner since 2008.  And outside of Denver in 2015, the SB winners are top 5 in both metrics.
Seems obvious...but in a system that requires longer throws into tighter windows, we are going to have a Hight Turnover% per drive.  And if your TO% is over 13% it’s a wrap.  You simply can’t overcome it unless you boast a generationally good defense like the 2015 Broncos.
The bad news: Dirk Koetter has fielded exactly one team in 12 years that wasn’t in the bottom 10 in Turnover % per drive.  That was us in 2012.  That year we were amongst the best in TO% and not surprisingly we had a great year.  Outside of 2012, DK’s offense usually finishes bottom 5 and twice had TO% of nearly 20%.

So can the leopard change his spots?  Yes, Ryan made some bad throws last year.  But it’s every single year with DK, regardless of the QB.  His units will turn the ball over between 13-18%.  Meanwhile, since 2012, the Patriots average a 7% TO margin.  The Chiefs last year were 8%.  The Eagles in 2017 were 9%.  Falcons in 2016 were 6%.   Seahawks in 2013/2014 were under 8% both years.
How can Quinn & TD help Koetter?  Clearly running the ball more is a start.  I’d also like shorter routes and less 7 step drops unless its off hard PA.  Koetter needs to use more of the field to get his talented athletes into space.  Stretch defenses horizontally.

We were bottom feeders in YAC last year which is another trait of a Koetter offense::  lots of yards, no yac, high TO’s and average ppg.
Fingers crossed he figures things out in 2020 and changes **** up.   But I have to ask, what’s the definition of insanity?  Something about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  Since 2013 Dirk Koetter’s offenses have every single year been in the bottom 10 in TO%.  And history shows that bottom 10 in TO% always leads to a down year.  FML

We play some good QBs this season. We all know AJ will not come in being our best CB. The most important stretch of the season for him, in my opinion is that late division run. Playing Brady and Brees late in the season is gonna be huge. I hope his play and confidence are up by then.
I would LOVE if he had a Lattimore type of rookie impact, but realistically if he could give us a Trufant type of rookie season, meaning a slow and steady progression throughout the season.
    What are your expectations?
