Posted this on recruiting thread but I don’t want to ruin the thread with JF debate.

In a perfect world we would have been playing chess, not checkers, and kept our eye on the next 2-3 years.  I believe Kirby & Chaney were short sighted this year.  Fromm is a great player and was going to improve this year, making it hard & controversial to supplant him if we were winning.  Kirk Herbstreit said all year that the debate is a joke and Fromm is the QB until he leaves.   But if our staff felt Fields was better long term, they should have sacrificed some lumps this year and started him.  Perhaps it sacrifices the year, but we were always a year away.  This was Bama’s year.  And being honest, we’d have the same record if Fields started every game this year.

10 years from now, how will people remember these 2 QB’s?  To me it’s clear.  Both are going to be great college QB’s....but only one will be remembered as dynamic.  A game changer.  A once in a generation talent and we let him get away.  JF simply could not gamble that Fromm would leave next year.  If Fromm stayed, Fields gets one year.  It’s not enough.  He needs years of meaningful practice reps and game snaps with the #1 team.

The good news is our OL and running backs are good enough to help Fromm win us a NC.  Fields on the other hand will be the kind of player who doesn’t need all the extra help to get the job done.  IMO

It's a tough situation. I'm a little puzzled by how the coaching staff handled Fields in games this year.  I do hate losing him. But Fromm is also special, in a different way. Not a direct comparison, but I think he has Tom Brady like leadership and smarts.

And there is the one fact that Fields couldn't beat out Fromm and it wasn't even close.

  2. They also ignore the number 10 as in the top 10 offense we fielded last year despite an injury riddled OL and lack luster running game. But yeah let's draft a running back smdh

Thats a very deceiving number. Saints and Tampa inflate the offensive numbers. When they played playoff calibers teams...or avg teams really, they struggled most of the time.

  3. Lolwut. Comparing a RB that hasn't finished a full college season to a franchise QB????

Also, Rodgers wasn't drafted in the top 10 lmfao

Just comparing the talent, the athlete.

Yeah, he wasn't. He should have been. And when Green Bay drafted him, it didn't make sense to the fans at that time.

Look, drafting Gurley doesn't make Falcons worse. So I'm all for it. Call me stupid, uniformed, an idiot. Don't matter to me. I've watched the kid. Watched every game. He is special and fills a need for our team. His talent is comparable to Adrian Peterson. I'm all for that.

  4. There are zero threads on any of the major Dolphin forums with the sole topic being Gurley. I just checked. That is a lie. Wanting a player is different from the rabid homerism you see on these forums.

Meanwhile, Gurley threads here run rampant.

Not every fan waste time on a forum like us. 😝

I'm friends with many Dolphin fans in ATL. They all talk about getying Gurley. One of these guys the other day was showing me a Twitter feed from team best writer. It was about Gurley.....

  5. They needed a QB in that very same draft. Looks like they made a pretty good choice.

I'm just not sure why you're automatically assuming that whatever pass rusher that is available will be a reach?? Ray, Beasley and Gregory have been in top10 discussion for ALL teams. Not just the Falcons. If any of them were available it wouldn't be a reach.

I like Beasley, a lot (Even though he couldn't touch Gurley in their last 2 match ups). Every thing I hear is Gregory is off Falcons board. And yeah, I think Ray is a reach.

People are so keyed in on defense and rightfully so, but offensive was great either. Can't always beat up on Saints and Tampa. I'm cool with Scherff too. Just get BPA. Whatever they deem that is.

  6. It's also about positional scarcity. Anywhere from 5-10 pass rushers will go in the 1st round. There might be 2 RB's that go in the 1st.

Wait til the 2nd round to draft a RB and you'll get the 3rd-4th best RB.

Wait til the 2nd to draft a pass rusher and you're looking at the 10th to 15th best pass rusher.

Some of you just don't get it.

This this same reason Falcons reached for Sam Baker?

I get it dude. But do you get it's not a one year project?

  8. We are not one player away. If Falcons drafted JPP, Clay Matthews, or JJ Watt they wouldn't automatically be a Superbowl team. Keep posting stats about RBs taken in 1st round vs DE/LBer. It doesn't matter BC all those DE/LBers were surrounded by more talent then the Falcons have.

Its about talent infusion. And if the Falcons top 3 defensive targets arent there, I'm OK drafting one of the best players in NCAA.
