Seems to be a mix of all those things going on. I thought the screen pass to Davis was because a defend my  was in the way and he had to lob it over him after the hesitation. Probably thoughts of the tipped passes from last week? Ryan had plenty on his arm last year so I’m still not buying it’s a physical thing.

There was a play today with 2 routes ran and the defense wasn’t fooled. Lots of work to do for Smith and the offense.

Gonna have to go back and watch it myself, but I saw a ton of motion today. Condensed formations too. The rub thing is harder to see in-game without rewinding and watching individuals (I was watching the OL a lot) but my bigger issue on first watch was Ryan not taking any shots. And trust me, there were shots there...there were a lot of one-on-ones, and whether it's him not trusting his WRs/TEs or not trusting his arm, he isn't pushing it downfield. And again, we saw it even on things like the Mike Davis screen in the 2nd half where he hesitated for like 2 full seconds before throwing. He definitely isn't totally comfortable yet and is having to coach everyone else on the field with how to run the offense (Ridley was especially a mess, kept seeing him look like he didn't know what he was supposed to be doing), but this is the kind of thing that gets fixed with time.
Props to AS for breaking out some more complex plays with their backs against the wall though. Knew they'd need it to get the win and trusted his guys to get it done, even if they don't have the full playbook down yet. Could've easily backfired - think that's part of the pick 6s we saw against Tampa, guys not knowing what they were supposed to do, and we saw the throw "behind" Gage in the endzone where Gage was supposed to read the coverage and find the hole in the zone, yada yada. But he gave it a shot and it panned out.

It’s really not fair to Matt or Justin for us fans to compare them, but yeah no way Justin goes clutch if he was looking at ghosts the way Matt was first 2 weeks here and during that awful couple drives to end the Half today and in the 3rd Q.
Both teams have issues on offense. Fields is learning the pro game and Ryan is learning yet another new offense; same thing for his teammates but that never gets mentioned in the narrative arguments.
Who cares about stats just win! Good team win. It feels good having a Defense keep us close for 4Qs for once. Felt like the KC game last year but we had Koo nail the Kick.
Of course, we were much sloppier than that KC game, but again yet another overturn in coaching.
Everyone wants to have final words on a Fields career or a Ryan career in span of 3 games or 3 snaps. It’s quick takes at its finest.
This team may not make a playoff push, but can they improve and show something to build on going into Year 2?
Loved the way the offense and defense fed off each other. STs was much better today as well.

Eh, we couldn’t run at all and we had to throw passes in under 2 seconds last week. Mayfield was better than week 1. Still was bad just not as obvious without focusing on the all 22. Hennessy and McGary both struggling at times; especially Kaleb. It was bad last week. It lead to all 3 of the picks at minimum. Ryan either takes sacks holding it 3 seconds or risks INTs on back foot throws. The behind back catch from Pitts last week was a 1 step drop and throw. Kaleb’s man still hit Ryan! Doesn’t show up on the stat sheet but there it was.

Pees's influence and fingerprint on the defense is obvious.
AS still has lots to prove. Offense looks really good on certain drives/QTs but looks really conservative and funky at other times. That tells me players are still learning and getting comfortable with the offense. But also tells me AS isn't comfortable with throwing more at them.
Saying that, AS needs to set up plays better and be more aggressive on early downs. I like the stretch run plays but a stretch PA or a backside throw would do wonders. That's just one example of setting up plays. Feed Pitts earlier in games to get him going. Where's Hurst? Gotta scheme up some plays to earn YAC for the receivers.
The RedZone playcalling was good overall. Run game looks better. OL (Mayfield) looks better and is gelling. The two TD drives and last FG drive had some good playcalling. Need more of that from AS throughout the game and not just when it's necessary.

But we have legit “fans” also trying to evaluate QB play here with the OL being dominated weeks 1 and 2.
Matt fought last week. Picks 6s were as much an OL factor as anything. Today, we fought and overcome drives stalling to turn it on in the 4th Q.

If we reach this point, there is no reason this team can’t reel off some wins.

When a defense keeps it close, Ryan has been reliable. He loses you some games, but we’ve gotten drunk on bad defense and haven’t seen many games where Ryan was QB and we were in control because we were just a passing team 2018-2020. Defense did flash some last year but cmon it was trash during 0-5. Inexplicable losses in 1 score games.
If we are close, today showed a good way to end the game. If for nothing else, that could be the difference between wins and losses in coaching alone.

Ridley had several plays he slipped, dropped pass or didn’t get North/South on plays he did get the catch.
Some of that looks like confusion in the offense. There seemed to be a trickle down effect at first when OZ had the drop in 1st Half.
What happened after tho? Came back. Everyone contributed. OZ was MONEY as the #2 in the 2nd Half. Pitts finally got a couple crucial targets/catches. Davis got a few nice gains on the ground and on dump offs.
Just build chemistry and less thinking out there. Ryan left some out there but I thought before the sack/fumble at Half he was doing best he could given the plays and some crucial drops to end drives.

Matt was in the zone those last 2 drives. We got fortunate that his “jump” ball pass that was forced early didn’t get picked, but can’t complain about the results.
Nice TEAM win. Defense kept us close all day. If this offense can grow and we get AJ back, maybe we can start being consistent.

This is the wrong game to say this. The coverage was tight all game because RIdley and Co just couldnt get open downfield. Commentators said multiple times that this is a coverage sack and things of that nature. Its hard to take shots when the OL A. doesnt give you time and B. he doesnt have anyone to throw it to. Today was more of B because the line help up better today.

well to put it in perspective, the Bucs had their hands full with us with these sub-talented guys.

Definitely not the worst team, but definitely bottom 10 or so. Huge talent gap between us and the big boys. Watching the Bucs and Rams and it's absurd how different the talent levels are.

Hopefully just getting that first win will open things up and get the monkey off his back.  I love aggressive A. Smith, not a fan of his conservative twin at all.

Always happy with a win. But this offense is borderline terrible. 5 TDs through 12 quarters isn’t going to cut it.

Yeah, there were mistakes on both sides. We are a dropped int away from losing most likely.
But I'll be Da**ed if our Falcons didn't come back from a TD back in this game and grind out the victory. When NY got that td and 2 pt conversion I thought there was zero chance they had the mettle to get that win.
Even when they tied it up at 14 and NY got the ball with 3 or 4 min to go, I thought there was no way.
But they got it done. And I'll take some happiness from that. Finally we saw some fire late in the game!

Nah the 1st game was for sure as bad as advertised that man got whipped worse than almost any lineman i have ever seen for that 1 game XD    But it also shows his mental toughness to take a beating like that and be able to come back from it to improve this much against 2 very good D-lines.  Thats the most impressive thing to me and proves he has a mindset of a good lineman is to be able to put bad things behind him and improve every chance he gets instead of just keep being down on himself and sulking.
