The question is not if he is a good player. The question is, do you want to be stuck with another WR contract averaging 20m a year?

Weird it's almost like having a good defense translates to more consistent success.

Da_Truth reacted to FalconsIn2012 in YAC Under Arthur Smith
One aspect of our offense that should finally get back on track under Arthur Smith is YAC.  The last two years under Derp Koetter, Ryan ranked 32 of 32 starting QB’s in YAC.  It almost seems impossible with receivers like Julio, Ridley, Gage & Hurst on the team.
Its so frustrating the FO wasted two prime years of Ryan/Julio with such a clueless OC.  A great OC can scheme easy yards for his receivers.  The fact Koetter took our Uber talented receiving corp and finished dead last in consecutive years tells you all you need to know about Derp.

Arthur Smith took Ryan Tannehill and a far less talented receiving corp and finished #2 overal, trailing only Shannahan’s 49ers at 6.2 YAC/Completion.  It will be so nice to see things made easier for the offense once again

Jason LaCanfora stopped being an insider the day he left NFL Network.
Saying Ryan doesn't have much longer to play.... CBS actually pays this guy for this 'analysis'?   He says the Falcons are "stuck with Matt Ryan".....  oh yeah, having a Pro Bowl caliber QB is -horrible-.   There are over a dozen teams that would love to have the Matt Ryan "problem".
Most the posters on these boards, could do a better job reporting NFL news.....

I count 6 games that were winnable and we blew it. Horrible coaching and bad execution when it mattered. Cowboys, Bears, Lions, Chargers, first Bucs game and Chiefs. Our overall point differential was -1.1 which indicates very close games.
The hope is coaching makes a difference this year and we've seen teams turn it around very quickly due to coaching but we also have to hit on the draft and free agency to compete for a playoff spot. We're not as far off as people think.

We need every one to do their jobs especially Terry Fontenot. We need players especially on the defensive side of the ball.

I looked at his introductory press conference from 2019, when he became the OC of Titans. It was interesting to see what he wanted to do with that offense and what he achieved in 2019-2020. AS gave lot of information and just sounds like a guy who wants to maximize the potential of the players.

On Offensive Philosophies after ML left Titans to become GB HC.
Smith was asked of all the offenses and coordinators he’s coached under, which one most closely aligns with his beliefs. On how he expects QB to improve in that offense. Hopefully this will put an end to SARk/DK calling god knows whose offense.
Paul Kuharsky asked, “What’s the key to maximizing Marcus?” Smith said that having familiarity with the system and an improved offense around him would help Mariota improve.
What would he do to improve the QB
When asked if there’s anything the coaches can do to help ensure that Mariota plays 16 games, Smith said there are plenty of things they can try to accomplish, and that there are a lot of factors in keeping the quarterback upright, including playcalling, understanding week-to-week matchups, changing the quarterback’s launch point, and having a successful run game, and capped it off by saying, “There definitely will be a conscious effort to keep him healthy.” Much more about his dad, run-pass ratio and so in the link..

We heard this kind of nonsense when we were looking for new coaching staff and GM. They wouldn’t want to come here because no talent etc, yet, we got the top head coaching candidate out there and Pees as DC who came out of retirement just to work with him for Gods sake.

Get Ryan that kind of coaching staff that knows how to utilize its players, knows how to scheme against opponents weaknesses and make halftime adjustments. Wow!

Get Ryan a feature running back capable of running for 300 yards for a 4.7 YPC average and 3 TDs in 4 playoff games? Wow! Then, give him that freaking defense with top coaching that was able to scheme to limit KCs high powered offense to just 3 FGs? All this equals a Lombardi for the Falcons.
We don’t need a new QB. Ryan has another 5 good years left in him. It’s pie in the sky talking about getting rid of him.
What we need, if we want a Lombardi, is for current roster to be far better coached, far better schemed and to have scouting department fill the holes with a bevy of high draft picks, strategic cap moves and player personnel.  That #4 pick in draft is golden for us, so many teams desperate for QBs will pay us a kings ransom for it.  Move down to middle of 1st round and pick up a high 2nd this THIS YEAR  with it, and get a starting RB, FS, CB and edge rusher all in top 40 picks of draft. Then, draft a massive NT in 3rd or 4th, just a plugger for now.

We can be right in the hunt for a Super Bowl in 2021 season if we can get Ryan anywhere near the supporting cast Brady had at his disposal this season. This includes coaching that knows how to utilize the current talent on the roster, scheme to take advantage of our players strengths against our opponents weaknesses and can make in game and halftime adjustments.

I’m stoked about 2021. The $#@& with a 3 year rebuild construction project.
