  1. I appreciate the excitement over Hawkins, but he needs to make the 53 first and hes a serious longshot. The small scatback is fun for some, but I'm glad to see we are doing something different. Thanks T. Fontenot and A. Smith...

  3. I'm cool with it as long as he doesn't start severely declining. Otherwise, no need to move on from him over the next few years.

  4. The Atlanta Falcons are likely entrenched with Matt Ryan as the quarterback for at least two more seasons The Falcons made the decision to restructure Ryan’s contract understanding that they weren’t going to be able to move him in either of the next two seasons, at least. Why? Well, according to this report, they’re comfortable having him as the starter. Ryan believes that he still has ‘good years’ left and the Falcons did their due diligence and then came away with the belief that their best course of action was to try and build a roster around him in which they could compete immediately and let the cards fall where they may. Is it going to work? We’ll have to wait and see. It’s simply not likely to work out financially for Ryan to be moved in 2021 or 2022. There is slight opportunity in 2023- if his contract isn’t restructured again- that the Falcons could work something out, but it still isn’t the most likely scenario. At this point, Ryan is set to make $43.6 million during that 2023 season, but will only have a dead cap of $15.6 million. Still, the overarching point remains the same: If you thought the Matt Ryan era of Atlanta Falcons football was coming to a close, you were sadly mistaken. We’ve still got multiple years of Ryan remaining and there could even be another extension at some point along the way if he shows he can still play at a high level because it’s clear that he isn’t planning on retiring in a couple of years, at least not right now anyway. Current state of the ‘Justin Fields at 4’ crowd who insisted we were moving on from Ryan.

  7. I believe they will ride with Ryan, as long as he can go, and let him walk away when he's done. Changing QBs to a complete unknown College kid, could end in disaster, and it could fail multiple times. The smart move is to ride with Ryan until he's done .

  9. I have not studied the AS scheme at all. Good points have been raised suggesting the following: AS did wonderful things for Ryan Tannehill's career The AS system/scheme gets the ball out much faster, thus improving the Oline & QB sack numbers. The AS system utilizes 2 TE sets nicely AS TN team had a very good run game. So now I am wondering how it will all translate to our team. I think MR will def get the ball out more quickly after that DK nightmare This, in turn, helps our already excellent QB even better & our O more efficient A game changer TE paired with AS is dripping with ridiculousness I think we have a real shot to improve on the Oline considering ball out quickly & outside zone runs being more effective (draft picks as well) I believe AS is just a smart coach. He doesn't need the same exact set up he had in TN to be mirrored here. He'll find creative ways to kick ***. Do y'all think we'll see MR roll out & do more play action with AS at the helm? Your thoughts on this are welcome...

  10. I agree Poker. It all helps to keep him upright as well. What I notice about Ryan is that he's always a bit more athletic then folks are expecting. He's always been pretty good inside the pocket but he was sneakier than expected rolling on PA fakes & being effective with his passes off of that. The more he does it, the better he does it too. The DK hire may have been the most significantly poor move by Atlanta in my recent memory. It's unreal when you think about just how many coaches & OC's MR has been through vs guys like TB & Drew Brees & Big Ben etc...

  13. Getting rid of ryan doesn't make that contract go away so not sure what kind of point you was trying to make.

  14. Ryan has missed 3 starts in his 13 year career and is coming off a season that saw him throw for 4,500+ yards and post the 5th best passer rating of his career. There was/is no reason to believe he's just going to randomly decline when there's been no evidence of it.

  15. Ryan’s money hasnt been the problem for rings. It’s dumb coaches like DQ.

  16. We should've never considered replacing Ice (I didn't) by drafting a QB this season. Until he shows that decline during a season there is no reason to replace a future HOF QB, and the best one we've ever had.

  17. Yeah, when his play falls off, I could see them at point. I feel like Ryan is the type of guy who will call it quits when he feels like he's struggling as a QB. I don't see them doing a Rodgers/Love thing either. Like they say, If you got two QBs, you got none. GB have essentially put themselves in that situation. They got away with it with Farve/ Rodgers. Think it's backfiring this time. I don't think TF and AS are worried about it. When Matts done, they will see it and he will feel it. Probably be a down year when it happens and they will draft one then or sign one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Matt got to 40 though.

  18. He will definitely stay productive through his contract. Take it year by year after that. Statistically and monetarily, Ryan has nothing to prove. Let's hope if we add any years to Ryan that he covets a ring more than money and we can build a superbowl winner at that point (if we don't acheive it already)

  19. If we only won the 4 games we had a 95% chance or better of winning then we would have made the playoffs last year. Our running game must improve to close out games but I expect better coaching will help as well. We will be in the tournament most likely but how far we get is a mystery

  21. Don't ask for a link because it was a private call event for season ticket members. I am just relaying as much of what I head on the call as I can remember. * When asked about not taking a RB in the draft - They are excited about the two RBs we grabbed in the "8th round" of the draft (aka undrafted free agents). He said "We have two guys who are going to turn some heads." * When asked about the cap and signing the rookie class - He said we are over budget at the moment but they have time to address that (until training camp is what he said). He also said there are a number of ways to get us where we need to be and they are going to take their time, evaluate all the options, and make the best choice for the team. *When asked about a possible Julio trade - He said, not speaking about Julio or any particular player, that they will continue to evaluate every option but whatever decisions they make will be for the betterment of the team in the long run. He mentioned that they had to make the tough decion to cut or let walk some players they really liked (again, not saying any names in particular). * When asked about adding additional pass rushers - He said you can never have too many good pressure players. Said pressure can come from all over the place. He specifically mention OLB, ILB, S... and then specifically mentioned Richie Grant blitzing from Safety. It was only about a 20ish minute call.. if I think of anything else, I will add it to the post.

  25. Less money in the past didn’t do anything. Heck Ryan had one of the lowest QB cap hits from 2018-2020. It was a dumpster fire during those seasons. What Falcons need is good coach and a team. I am hoping AS is who we think he is gonna be in next 2-3 years. If TF and AS continue making dumb decisions with dead caps and crappy players, QB cap hit will be least of the concerns.

  26. Same. We've gone from Dirk Koetter to a guy who's schemed the #4 and #10 scoring offenses over the last two seasons, and to a DC who's defenses have finished top 10 in scoring in 8 of his 12 seasons as a DC. It may start out slow, but I have high hopes for this team. Let's not forget we started 2016 at 7-4 before going on a tear.

  27. Despite all the hits Ryan has absorbed behind a disaster of an o-line, he has avoided the injuries that can break a QB down and lead to a decline, namely his shoulder on his throwing arm. He hasn't needed any surgeries so I feel pretty confident in his longevity, as long as the o-line takes a step forward. If he does get injured, his age will make recovery more difficult so it's more important than ever that he gets good protection.

  28. I can see them moving on if his play falls off and he is nearing a contract year. Sort of a Manning > Luck situation. But I don't see them jumping the gun and getting a 1st round QB just in case. I could see them burning a mid-rounder on a guy they think might develop. And I can for sure see them accumulating draft capital as best they can for a move up eventually. But I don't see them doing a Rodgers ..... Love thing.

  29. I have a feeling that TF and Arthur smith thinks that they have enough peaces to win now I think our old coaching stuff was vastly overrated. The moves that they have made doesn’t feel rebuilt to me i still still don’t understand how the **** does Dan queen have a job in the NFL even the year we went to the super bowl we had a terrible defense it was all shanny

  31. Imagine a line up with Patterson in the backfield, Julio and Ridley on the outside with Hurst and Pitts at TE. You could run the basic 12 lineup or put Pitts in the slot or you can put all of them in a 5 wideout line up or... Think of the speed and then go no huddle. All of them can play anywhere.

  40. So I flipped off a six year old today. Took the wife and kids to Callaway Gardens today and as we're driving around the park the golf cart in front of us had two boys on the back whom I'm guessing were brothers based off of their appearance. The little one stood up and decided to hang double birds and my wife was all "Oh my God is that little boy shooting us birds?" and I was all let me hang it out the window to make sure the little **** sees it and the windshield doesn't get in the way.

  42. If they can sort out what they want to do on the line, he could be an amazing one cut and go kind of guy. He's never had much of a workload before so I wonder how that's gonna go.

  43. He has some ability that I think would translate into being a starter. Just have to wait and see if he is able to get acclimated to the faster speed and bigger bodies in the NFL. If he can adjust and not get overwhelmed he has a good chance to make the roster.
