  2. yeah looking on the bright side with shiny new toys in the FO is nice and all but we just went 4-12 after two .500(ish) seasons, Matt Ryan usually plays 9-7 ball or worse after a OC change and lets be real here this defense isn't getting fixed in 1 offseason if we hired Bill Belichick and we have no cap room for major signings, so tell me, if we go between 4-12 and 8-8 next year(which we did btw with the great Shanahan), and miss the playoffs again, what is the plan going in to 2022? 1st big issue, next years QB class is projected to be mediocre at best and if there is a good one that com

  5. Actually that isn’t true. You can speak of wanting to draft a new QB and you won’t be savaged for that. You get savaged for saying things like “worship at the alter” or this one below... Calling people “dumb” because they want to keep Ryan at QB is why you’ll get savaged. Just saying...

  6. This team needs to prioritize the things that will address the current suckiness. I've watched a lot of film on this team this season. That said, I'm no coach or technical analyst. I watch for DFS purposes, so I'm looking more at route trees, trench battles, and DBs who tend to get lost in space more than any technical x's and o's. What I see is a team that is best working off of play action, but that often finds itself with no threat of play action at key moments in the ball game. They are either down multiple scores, or are trying to protect leads. In the first situation you have to pa

  7. I have in general been a fan of Ryan. I never felt he was elite outside of a few years but overall above average QB play should be enough. Outside of 2015 this is the first time I am torn on drafting his replacement. Reasons include having a top pick, his age, and the QB prospects this year. On the other hand we have seen recently QB's play well into their 40's and his contract creates problems moving on from him. A few weeks ago I started doing research on the history of top 10 QB picks to help me come to a conclusion on the issue. I initially started collecting data just sin

  9. The misconception of those not wanting to draft a QB at 4 vs those of us who do, is we hate Matt Ryan. News flash, we dont hate Matt Ryan. Most of us love him in fact. It's not about next year.....its not about Matt Ryan. Its about the next 13 years, and its about the Atlanta Falcons. I want what's best for the team, and imo, that's taking a QB.

  10. Dude was a 3rd round pick in 2004 and lasted until 2020...and he got to finish his career where it started. Can't hate on that. Good luck in life Matt.

  12. This here is probably the most honest analysis I've read on the board.... We have zero pass rush. Brady had all day in both games Our run game is weak Our line has been trash for several years now Matt Ryan, when given more than 1.5 seconds, is still a great QB I agree with everyone that was posted here.. And there's no need to insult Ryan or other posters on this board.. well done

  15. I found mine as well: "Guy takes a lower tier starter in Tannehill, and that’s what he was, make no mistake, and develops him into a top 5 QB. We had one of the best offenses in recent memory last year, in the last 10 games, and we’re 3rd in scoring this year. We have a balanced offense that can score in any way possible, I’d say one of the 3 best running offenses & a top 5-7 passing game. We lost both our OT’s from last year who were a great tandem & have barely missed a beat. PFF said after 7 games we were the most efficient offense they’ve rated since the ‘07 Pats. We’re 3rd in

  16. You support Koetter, who averaged 24.5 ppg with top 3 personnel to work with... But you pass on Brady who averaged 22 ppg with the worst personnel in football. Brady is still a bit of an unknown, but his ceiling is off the charts high. Andy Reid would have struggled to manage 23 ppg with the Panthers personnel

  17. Matt Ryan sucks. A REAL QB could have gotten hit 111 times and still won MVP and the Super Bowl. Would have stood up and said “thank you sir may I have another.” And a real QB doesn’t need a running game, defense or an OC who has a clue./purple.

  21. we will suck again in 2021 - even w/ better coaching - we might suck less, but we will suck. Falcons need a longer window of opportunity than they have now w/ Matt & Julio. We need to trade Julio - clearly we have enough weapons now in passing game w/o him with Ridley as a true #1, Gage as a #2 and getting better all the time and Olamide showing promise as well. Hayden Hurst isn't a star but competent. Julio should be traded to a contender for probably a 2nd rounder (yes that is all he is worth w/ his large contract and being 32yrs old). Matt can hang for another year an

  22. You're going to be pretty irritated when you see #2 trot out there next year, huh? Tell me... Where did Ryan hurt you?
    8 points
  23. Most of the people in here who worship at the altar of Ryan aren't bright enough to even project past two years when his contract expires. All they care about is rolling out #2 every Sunday until he dies. Lawrence? Forget it. Fields? Forget it. Wilson? Forget it. Who needs them when we already have our Hall of Fame qb? If you in any way insinuate, suggest or even worse, propose that we turn the page and draft Ryan's successor... you will be savaged in here. That's why I keep coming back.

  24. Then you look at the direction you want to go after that. If we are awful again, then we still have a top five pick in 22, presumably somebody else’s top pick or picks from a trade down this year, and we have a much better financial situation to begin a rebuild. We would be able to trade Matt (and Julio, assuming he isn’t traded in the next few months), and we’d have another high pick or picks. These guys are extremely good at what they do. We owe it to the team, the fans, and our own peace of mind to try to fix our defense next year and see if we have one run left in us before blow

  25. Posts like this that are in absolute form just absolutely blow my mind. There was a time that John Elway would never win a Super Bowl for the Broncos either. All it took was hiring the right coach to build the right team and suddenly Elway wins the Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson were never going to win the Super Bowl either but they landed on perfect teams and won Super Bowls. Matt Ryan is more than good enough to win a Super Bowl. Anyone that thinks he isn't good enough to win a Super Bowl with is just showing their ignorance.

  28. 1) You draft a QB when your current QB is bad...ours isn’t. 2) You draft a QB when your QB is ending his career...ours isn’t. 3) You draft a QB so you can take advantage of the rookie wage scale and save a ton of money for five years and build around him...we are still paying Ryan so that isn’t a thing, and we have no money to surround that person with talent. 4) The flawed logic of “we won’t be drafting this high in a long time we we have to take our QB of the future”. This is wrong for two reasons. QBs taken in the top five have been less successful then the rest of the fist

  31. Whoa. Slow down Doc. Who says any of us are talking about a future replacement or starter. We're talking about a developmental guy. No one wants to embrace the defensive suck anymore. We've done that since the beginning of this club.

  34. Only problem I have with this is if we get back to sustained offensive success, LaFleur or McDaniel will be gone in 1-3 years and then we're back in the same hole as present. I'd much rather have offensive HC with a vet DC. I'd still absolutely loathe Raheem being HC because he did nothing to address/stop/prevent the Falcons from blowing games late in the 4th, and we need to 100% wash our hands of that identity and anyone involved in it (sadly McKay is part of this too).

  36. I agree w/ the premise of the OP. The one consistent in the NFL is you aren't winning a SB w/o an elite QB - it's happened on a few occasions - Flacco got hot in 2012 and Ravens won, Ravens won in 2000 with the sickest defense in history of NFL in spite of Trent Dilfer and Tampa won one year w/ elite defense and Brad Johnson. So in last 20 SuperBowls it's happened 3 times - so that's 15% odds and passing game has increased since all of those SB wins and defense has decreased. "Defense wins Championships" - meh, not really, not anymore - you need a good defense to win a championshi

  37. I get why people want to draft a QB. Normally I would be in this mold myself. The problem is, I dont feel like I'm looking at a 10-15year QB in this draft. Maybe I'm wrong, but I personally dont feel that way. It doesnt mean my word is law, it means that I cant really get behind it. Personally. It bugs me. Wilson bugs me. I like Fields, but if the Jets are taking QB, we aren't getting Fields. So since it's the QBs, not football science, my thinking is focus on the run and defense. Dont just claw at a QB because we are in the top five. Now, if we do this. I wont be happy. I'll be upset. A

  38. A back in the 5th..ugggh. Bad enough that this mock trades out and the Vikings get Wilson, but not addressing the RB position with a premium pick is a crime. Nice job though, and I certainly could not do better. Just see things differently.

  41. What I don't understand is, how people don't see that regardless of whether or not they like the idea of the Falcons ever having another QB not named Matt Ryan, that time doesn't stop for any man. MR2 is 36 years old, clearly not the player he once was, and whether you like it or not, he can't play forever. He's simply at that age where you gotta start thinking about life after he's gone. So wth is the problem here? In this draft, you have a golden opportunity to get your franchise QB of the future, but the cool thing is there's no pressure to play him immediately because your former fran
