I'm going to kill this thread with the very first post. I found this on Facebook in response to a thread about a top IRS taking the fifth in her testimony before Congress:
"The thing is that technically she can't take the fifth. The fifth protects one against self incrimination, NOT from telling the truth! She can't "take the fifth" to avoid telling the truth!"
Here's what Broussard said on ESPN about Jason Collins: "If you're openly living that type of lifestyle, the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that that's a sin," said Broussard, comparing homosexuality to any other sex outside of marriage. "If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ."
NOTHING wrong with someone expressing that opinion on an opinion show, right?
So why did ESPN apologize with: “We regret that a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction from today’s news. ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins’ announcement,”
The apology is really disturbing to me. Did they presume that they were going to get heat? OR did they respond to pressure? Where did the pressure come from?
This was not Rush Limbaugh mouthing off about black quarterbacks, or Jimmy the Greek doing whatever he did, this was an opinion piece, expressing a religious view that included those engaged in different kinds of sin as set forth in the bible.
The apology creates more problems for the gay community that the statement itself. WTF!
