SunTrust Park

110 posts in this topic

Well the Braves have played their first weekend in SunTrust Park, and none of the predicted disasters have occurred.  There was no massive traffic jam, in spite of it being Easter Sunday, and the fact that part of I-85 was blown up by the Russians and Trump. There was no lack of parking, in fact there were many more parking spaces available than at old Turner field, and none  of them were in anyone's front yard, jammed in like Sardines.  All were clearly marked and easy to enter and exit.  Best of all, none of the people of Cobb County showed up with torches and pitchforks because the county used some of it's money to entice the Braves to build a ballpark there. There had been a lot of whining and moaning about that from Schultz and Bradley in the AJC. It seemed the folks were glad to have this beautiful, easily accessed ballpark in their neighborhood, along with shopping, bars and restaurants, contributing to their tax base instead of dingy Turner Field with few amenities , few parking spaces and sitting like an island in the middle of nothing.  All in all, all the whiners about moving from Turner field were 100% dead wrong.......beat of all the Braves have won 4 straight !   OK lefties, make something bad about that.

What do you mean by their neighborhood? I would venture to say the majority of Braves fans aren't in Cobb. The Battery is just a way for Liberty to make all the profits from the stadium goers while footing none of the costs. The stadium looks nice, but it is in the least accessible part of Atlanta. Also I personally never had a problem parking at the Ted.

Sundays game was an extra treat for me to watch on TV. My daughter, son in law and 2 grand kids were on live when the camera scanned the crowd and focused on them for a few seconds. They saw themselves on the field big screen but didn't know they made national tv.

Nor did I. ****, you could park at whatever the closest MARTA station was if you were coming from the suburbs or take an Uber to the stadium if you lived in the city. This is just another example of capitalizing the profits and socializing the losses.

That said, SunTrust is a much nicer ballpark than Turner Field was.

Try parking without being "prepaid" . . . This might have been my fault for not getting online before hand, but I ended up driving to a lot that had been abandoned (so I did park for free . . . in the third inning)

The park itself is no more or less  "dingy" than Turner, which was just fine thank you very much even 20 years later.

However, the concession lines created pretty much of a nightmare getting around inside.  It took a half hour to get to our seats.  My son wanted to sit in the bleachers, and we got secondary market seats for $27 in the first row right next to the little water feature out there . . . which somehow looks dated three days in.  Could have been much cooler.  Speaking of cooler, the fountains going off was refreshing when the wind was blowing the right way.

Everything about the stadium, from the move, to the generic design to the narrow walkways and slow concessions seems to be about screwing the citizens and the fans, and generating dollars for the developers and Braves.

I'm calling it "Money Grab Park"

I do like the area around it, and it seems like it is going to work.  It is SHAMEFUL that the city leadership couldn't get out of their own way to achieve something like that Downtown.  TREMENDOUS failure that let the Braves and Cobb play on the perceived bigotry of their fan base . . .

Ironically, the Xfinity lounge out in right field was my favorite feature of the park . . . it's the only thing Xfinity has ever gotten right in customer service.

The majority of Braves fans are in the Northern sectors of Atlanta, that is a fact. Also you ignored the fact that there are more parking spaces and easier in and out of the spaces. You appear to be one of the nut jobs that despise corporations unjustly.  Corporations exist to make a PROFIT, those that don.t. don't exist very long.  You need to channel your hatred in another direction.

Congrats, most people loved the new park, unlike the grumps here.

It was a good move for the Braves. They got everything they wanted. It won't be a good move for Cobb County based on studies of the economic impact of stadiums on cities since it usually takes decades to balance the books. However, I hate Cobb County so I don't really care about that in this case. It is annoying for me though since I used to be able to Uber to Braves games and now I can't even take MARTA to their games. Hopefully MARTA is also shoved down that county's throat in short order. SunTrust Park is also a much better ballpark than Turner Field, as I've said before.

Still, it's just another example of sports franchises looting the taxpayers because they don't want to pay for their own stadiums. In a perfect world we'd reform the mechanism they keep abusing to block them from holding cities hostage and so it'd be used for things it's meant for... like improving the infrastructure.

Just another grouch....ignore him, the new park is beautiful, much better than Turner Field in every way.

More half azzed "Facts"  the new park was not paid for by the taxpayers, they paid for a lesser portion than the corporation paid.  Taxpayer participation is the way most stadia are paid for all over the country, with few exceptions.  I cannot fathom how many people have been miseducated to hate Capitalism. Hating Capitalism is a tool of the Socialists. Don't you realize that Cap[capitalism is the main reason that we are the most prosperous country in the world, and you probably work for a Capitalist firm that feeds you family ?  Conservatives support Capitalism and prosperity. For some warped reason, you seem to hate both. Sad.

I am sitting at my desk. I don't think you understand how facts work.  You should probably get back to work anyways, it's Monday morning and as your screen name tells us, you are the "head mother ****** in charge."
