Super Bowl Date Change Possible Due To Weather

31 posts in this topic

January 24, 2014 -- Counting down to the Super Bowl -- the big question now -- when exactly will it take place?

Of course it's supposed to be next Sunday -- but for the first time ever -- the NFL is suggesting the date might be moved -- if it's too cold or snowy on Super Bowl Sunday.

Could we see a Super Bowl Friday, or Saturday, or even Monday? Believe it or not, it's possible if a major storm threatens the big day."We don't have a crystal ball on weather, but we're confident we'll be able to have our events," said Eric Grubman, executive VP, NFL.

On Wednesday, more than 1,000 workers shoveled out 13 inches of snow from the stands at Metlife Stadium.

"Our game is to experience the elements. It's part of what we do. It's part of football, and I believe that's part of our history," said Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner.

"If the Super Bowl is under siege because of Mother Nature and everybody's plans are all messed up... it sounds like something right out of the movies," said Christine Brennan, USA Today.

This will be the first outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl in the NFL's History, so officials hope fans will take the weather, giving out free hats, ear muffs, gloves, scarves, hand warmers, even a quarterback-style hand pocket.

"This is unprecedented stuff. The Super Bowl is the biggest sports event in the country," said Brennan. "And to think the date could actually move because of a snowstorm, that's possible. That's literally what we are talking about here."

One of two things is likely:

1. Fans won't be able to get to the game because of weather so there will be a lot of empty seats

2. The game will be moved and fans who booked travel plans already won't be able to get to it and there will be a lot of empty seats

Lawsuits galore.

Smh. Should have never put had it their in the first place. Look for a big *** lawsuit afterwards if it's moved to Monday

Yep, it was a dumb decision from the beginning.

Which is why they chose an outdoor venue.

So live with it.

Exactly. Why the **** they put a SB in one of the coldest parts of the country is beyond belief.

Though I am hoping for snow.. Just not enough to cancel the game. Just enough to make it miserable and really cheese off the happy shinny non football fans who just want superbowl tickets. Plus the game would be awesome to Watch in the snow.

I don't see why they just don't permanently make the game for Saturday, Would be much better for 99% of the workforce not having to go to work the day after the big game

It was a pretty stupid idea to begin with. If the date changes, not only will there be lawsuits but refund requests as well. I wonder how many people booked flights without getting the insurance.

I like the weather angle. Gives the press something to talk about during this two week lull.

they will focus more on Sherman more than the weather.

I wouldn't be against it being on Friday or Saturday though lol. I'm always off on the weekends so that would be perfect for me lol. Monday on the other hand would be deadly

Things that are not going to happen

1) Change the date of the Superbowl due to weather

2) End of list

If it is snowy, the only impact with be the airports. The roads will not be an issue. They can also focus resources to keep a key rail or two open.

They are trying to their best to sound empathetic to fans. It is all a show. They are playing the game next Sunday. Count on it.

this is so stupid. one of the main reasons they wanted it to be in NY was the weather. if they didn't want weather to be a factor, wtf would you put it outdoors in the meadowlands in the beginning of FEB????

So....if it is anything close to the game between Philly and Detroit earlier this season...who do y'all think will win? Or who do you think it benefits more? My money is on Seattle. I think they are built more for the elements plus even if their offense slows down, their defense will still be a force regardless of weather. And despite denver being home of bad conditions themselves, I think it will get to manning and that offense. And I dont think Denvers D will b able to bail them out.
