I'm impressed. I've never seen him look that in shape. He also had a certain look to him that I have never seen. This may be his year.

"Last year we did a lot of dropback..."

SMFH... just what I want out of my pass rush... a friggin' DE in coverage on a TE or RB!?Posted Image

The difference this year!?  BVG THOUGHT he was smart... Nolan is too smart to overthink schemes that put the wrong players in the wrong positions not doing the jobs they are hired/trained to do...

And some people think he's better suited as a 3-4 DE in our hybrid sets... Posted Image

I know what you're getting at, but anytime you launch yourself that high at a qb, you're going to hit something that's gonna cost you 15 yards.  Gotta be that aggressive but a little smarter at the point of attack with the RB blocker...

It was his style of play the past few years. Since his Vikings days. I'm not a fan either, but I'm hoping that he proves me wrong.

I'll just be happy with him going all in at the QB instead of playing to contain. that split second often bought QBs time to escape pressure.

Thanks for the info on him. I did my homework and yeppers you were right. He may be better suited for Nolan. If he bombs this year, no worries. We have plenty of guys who can make up the margin for him.

Because he's not a 2-gap guy. He's a pure edge rusher and always has been. He has zero qualities of a 3-4 DE, besides his height and his frame.

he's already said that Nolan has them playing more aggressive and they won't be dropping back into coverage or playing to contain. the one thing that I liked about him in Minny is that he was quick off the snap & often had to be doubled or chipped. I was a little disappointed with how we used all our guys last season & you're right, we have plenty of guys that can get after the QB & history tells us Nolan will use them correctly & at least 2 LBs will thrive playing cleanup.

Okay, glad you clarified. I was saying that he wasn't all that great and some thought he would be fine at 3-4 DE. I personally just wanted to wake up and find out that it wasn't true. Now I just want to get the most out of him.

Not many around here understand what I'm saying man. It just turns into a silly argument.

he dropped back but he also fooled the LT and forced a double team on the stunt while he rushed 2 from the left. when we dropped our DEs in coverage we usually either rushed only 3 or the blitz came from somewhere where it was easily picked up. it was kinda frustrating to watch. in this case I'll allow it lol

I like Ray Edwards. I think he could eventually move over to the right side and replace John Abraham. He gets entirely too much hate on this board, but he's actually a pretty good defensive end. He had a pretty decent year last season, despite a low sack total, but he does need to bring that number up. He's still a quality player and I'd even like to see how he did standing up on occasion.
