The Atlanta Falcons have lost their only three playoff games in the past three years. The biggest weakness of those teams, offensive line, will be a strength in 2012 and lead the Falcons to their first playoff win since Thomas Dimitroff, Mike Smith and Matt Ryan have been in Atlanta.

let's hear what y'all think. my projected starting lineup for the Falcons by the end of the 2012 season.

LT - Holmes/Baker

LG - Blalock/Johnson

C - Hawley/McClure

RG - Konz/Johnson

RT - Clabo/Svitek

I'm not sure that Holmes will be trusted to guard Ryan blind side with Svitek still on the team.

I never thought Andrew Whitworth would have been the starter his rookie year for Carson Palmer either. same kind of project as Holmes. a lot of similarities between the 2 guys really. both excel as pass blockers and both had trouble as run blockers.

This would be music to my ears. We haven't had an Oline in decades.

Here's my Oline based on the current players:

LT - Svitek
LG - Blalock
C - McClure
RG - Manu
RT - Clabo

I think Konz will beat out McClure but otherwise correct.

This would be my absolute dream O-Line (with players we currently have on the roster). If Hawley and Konz legitimately earn their spots at C and RG over McClure and Johnson/Manuwai, with Holmes earning his spot at some point throughout the year, our line would be very, very solid.

Also, just a little criticism, you need to proofread your articles better.

Quote

After going 13-3 in 2012 with a top offensive line in 2012, the Falcons regressed in 2011 after losing Harvey Dahl. Open competition is a theme for the Falcons in 2012 and the offensive line is no exception.
The first sentence is screwed up completely, then you repeat "in 2012" for the third time. You keep saying "in [year]." You should switch it up by saying "this year, last year, two years ago, this coming season," etc.

thanks for catching that Sven. my editor noticed it too. only real grammatical issue in the article and it was late when I published it. Editors went in and corrected the basic stuff.

Konz isn't even competing at C... he's competing at RG.

That would be wonderful, but somehow I cant erase TD's track record with  regards to assembling OL talent on this team.

We can only hope that the line is improved ....I dont see this OL being dominant as long as McClure is the starting C.......Veteran,leadership...yada yada yada -He is light in the azz and gets handled alot by strong DL players....

I don't know if Pat Hill is the answer or not, but I suspect that awesome handle bar mustache will bring some attitude to the offense.  He better not shave it.

...for now. He is also practicing in 3rd string, for now. He was a C in college. I fully expect to see him get some reps at C at least by training camp. The primary hold up would be whether or not Johnson, Jackson, or Manuwai can hold down the RG spot. If they think one of those can start at G, and Konz can start at C, then, as much as I love him, you may have seen the last of McClure.

People aren't getting it. It's not that Konz can't play center they brought him in for G. Sure he could be seen at C if something happens, but the FO hopes Hawley is the future at C and Konz at RG.

I actually more believe that they are putting him at G b/c of the failure at RG last season. They know they have options at C, but aren't sure about their options at G. There were other pure Gs available at that spot, but we took the guy with mostly experience at C.

They took him not because he was just a center, but because hes a big guy that can move. They liked his pulling ability which is what they want there guards to do. Theyve said it numerous times.

the staff loves Hawley. I truly believe that Hawley, Not McClure or Konz, is the starting C in 2012 and beyond.

he was one of the top OG prospects in the country when he was getting recruited. He only moved to C to get PT because of Frederick, Zeitler and Moffitt.
