I found a sample of Dirk Koetter's first NFL preseason game in 2007 against the Miami Dolphins and this guy knows how to design a four vert spread offense. I can see Matt and the guys having a fun time with Dirks four vert package and the screen game that he will bring to the ATL. I'm going to show you his than I'm going to post a sample of NO's four vert game. You tell me if you see a difference from what you gather from the two. A NO fan may chime in and hate but who cares.

Manuwai looked pretty good (despite his first snap) holding up the pocket. If he is fully healthy, he could be a good addition. Plenty big and can play

I liked how many times the receivers were completely wide open.

Also, if Ryan can make throws like Brees did on those two in the video above, this offense will be dangerous.

Well Ryan has near pin point accuracy with his mid-range balls(10-30 yards) so he could exceed his play from last year I'm guessing.

That's the difference between Ryan and the elite QBs, their OC's could get them wide open and make the pass easy for the QB. Koetter had Matt Jones and Ernest Wilford getting wide open. It's not about ability, it's about if the OC can get them open on paper. That's what Payton does so well and makes Brees' job easy. What makes the elite QBs though is those two throws that you mentioned. If Ryan can start hitting those, he will take the next step.

Jesus Christ vel...Its pre season ...Koetter couldnt get his wrs open in space last year for his rookie QB that is for sure. Koetter offense made Gabbert look like a deer in headlights.

Looks like a lot of open receivers to me. Someone must of made him think that there were more receivers than what was on the field because he sure thought it was. Gabbert also has a slow release want work in koetter's offense and Gabbert got scare a lot even with no pressure.

Off topic but, jaysus... Leftwich's delivery really was slow. Imagine how many sacks he'd have taken behind our O-line last year. Threw a very nice looking ball to be fair to him, but slow as a wet week coming getting out of his hand

Dxmn this guy can find a needle in a haystack. I have been searching for Koetters offense for months I think the routes and the timing of the throws were shorter than the saints throws viewed. Manuwai held his own for the majority of the tape, which is vital to what they are doing here. The better the protection, especially at guard and The blindside, the deeper the passing routes.

My point. Koetter's offense is a big boy offense. Gabbert was a 3rd round QB masked as a top 10 pick because of the media hype. He plain ole sucked. That's not Koetter's fault, but of course you will put the blame on him because he is now associated with the Falcons and you have no faith in anybody related with the Falcons.

No kidding, I liked all the motion DK used too.... there were times the wrs who were in motion  had no one around them.

Julio and HD in space??? That is a win for us EVERY time.

Here is some explosive Reeves half vertical with a rookie QB tossed in the mix on the road.

Man, it looks like Madden compared to Mularkey's, from the video. Not all that much talent on that offense either. That said, I'm still wait and see on Koetter, and this is one video against a 1-16 team, although I'm confident the pass offense will improve just with more emphasis on it and a route tree that actually goes toward the end zone more than occasionally..

yep, the 4-vertical does not equate deep throws. it is creative and aggressive route design that opens up the field & can be deadly with intelligent pre-snap reads and audibles. a wide open WR is commonplace in the short & intermediate range because of the way the scheme attacks zones and exploits mismatches. the screen component keeps everyone honest and tightens them a bit towards the LOS. no more cookie cutter game plans that either work or dont. that's why Mularkey knew his offense was toast before the Giants game began. now we have an OC who will structure the game plan week to week depending on defensive schemes and weak points. if Hill gets the OL playing the way they are capable of then our O should finally reflect the 'explosive' mantra that the FO has been preaching. Ryan should shine in this.

But for real, Blaine Gabbert is just awful.  Missed a LOT of wide open receivers, and didn't have good pocket awareness (the sack on the naked boot came because Gabbert waggled out and then just stood there, for example).

Well Matt wants to get back to his gunslinging days in BC and from this article I found on Dirk Koetter's philosophy on passing the ball from 2010 looks like Smitty was right when he said that they were looking for someone that will match Ryan's skill set a I don't believe that Dirk was just hired for him being a Jag but the philosophy of his belief in the passing game fits with what Ryan wants to do and what Roddy said Matt was looking to do in 2012. I'm amped about this here.

Here are a few quotes from the article on Dirk Koetter's belief on the passing game.

"I'm absolutely more comfortable in the passing game, but one guy, one coach doesn't just dictate that," Koetter said.

And he admits his preference is throwing the ball.

Absolutely," Koetter said. "That's my background. My background is in the passing game, but again, they don't pay you as a coach to go with your preference.
