Now this is welcomed news! I would love to add this dude to our roster, even if it meant having to take him at #55. Yes he is MLB and yes we have Dent and Lofa. Im looking at the ability and upside. More ability and upside than Dent..more upside than Lofa. Lofa is actually on the downside of his career. I can see Kendricks actually playing OLB just to get him on the field, from an athletic stand point, speed, and versatility...he is an instant upgrade over Nicholas. Perhaps drafting Kendricks even allows us to trade Nicholas. Sometimes you have to take the best player available over need. He probably wont be there in the 3rd, so we may have to take him in the 2nd...if we want him.

  • Free-agent defensive back Madieu Williams is expected to choose between offers from the Falcons and the Redskins. The Falcons could use some veteran depth in their secondary after letting James Sanders and Kelvin Hayden go in free agency.
  • California linebacker Mychal Kendricks is scheduled to have a pre-draft visit with the Falcons.
  • New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson reportedly has spoken with NBA commissioner David Stern about the possibility of buying the New Orleans Hornets.
  • Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff and coach Mike Smith reportedly will be at Clemson on Tuesday to watch defensive end/linebacker Andre Branch and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson work out.
  • LSU wide receiver Rueben Randle said he had a pre-draft visit with the Panthers.
  • Gary Shelton writes about Warren Sapp and says he once could have owned Tampa Bay, but now has filed for bankruptcy.

it's not really a need, but i would love to have this guy on the team. imagine him as one of the MLBs in our 3-4 sets, and paired with Spoon in nickel - wow.

Even if its 4-3, he and Spoon as OLBs! Jut looking at his film and combine numbers, I bet a move to OLB would be seemless. Nicholas is an average OLB at best. If we draft Kendricks, we could trade Nicholas.

idk about that. Kendricks is small and we don't really have a solid SLB other than Nicholas. Weatherspoon would waste some of his talent playing on that side, and is not that big either. regardless tho, it would be a good problem to have. Nolan would find a way. but i disagree about Nicholas being average. he is pretty fast, is a good blitzer and is good in coverage. i think Nolan will bring out his strengths more this year. we do however need some SLB depth. i am very curious about which of our current DEs can transition to a hybrid SLB.

One of my fave players in the draft. Upgrade over Lofton too.

He's 5'11" 240lbs...that's not small.

i am only calling him small in the argument against making him a strong side LB.

Spencer Adkins plays both OLB positions at 5'11" and Elvis Dumervil is 5'11"

If it comes down to bpa, give me Dwayne Allen.  We've kinda lost-out already by not getting a good left tackle as a need.

i am happy to concede on my point. it is more common for the SLB to have some size to stand up against the run better, but i would love to get Kendricks - and also love exceptions to the rule. plus with Nolan anything is possible. just. get. playmakers.

ESPN lists him as 6'1 and the Cal site says hes 6'0 so I'd imagine hes closer to 6'0 than 5'11.

I'm pretty excited about this prospect, actually, despite my confidence in our MLBs after Lofton's departure. Both SLB and MLB can be improved upon, and I like this guy.

Dude Idc what you guys say about his size. He is a straight bullet and a great LB. I would be happy if he is our pick no lie.
