The
New York Jets kept defensive tackle
Sione Pouha from the open market by signing him to a three-year deal, the team announced Monday. He could have become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday afternoon.
Pouha, 33, led Jets linemen with 58 tackles last season. The main duty for the 6-foot-3, 325-pounder is to clog the middle and stuff the run.
Pouha has played six seasons for the Jets and started the last three since being drafted out of Utah. He had a safety and also forced a fumble last season.
Because he served a religious mission in college, Pouha did not enter the NFL until he was 26.
