Biermann Set To Sign Contract Extension

73 posts in this topic

This is a bad move. Biermann showed me nothing last year. Actually, he regressed a little. Dimitroff starting his *ish already. Save that money and let Matthews and Sidbury have that spot. They can't do any worse than Kroy did last year.

the whole team regressed last year than according to our record. we should let them all go!

Surprising, but not unexpected.

Maybe Nolan will use him more as a 3-4 LB/DE hybrid or something.

YES! like he meant to be used. thats what he has always played until he came to the falcons

We should sign Kim Kolciak at LT. She's got the measurables and is great at sapping the production of DE's. Just look what she did to Kroy's.

Kidding. I think Biermann will be a good fit for Nolan's new D.

I think Kroy is the perfect fit for Nolans system and I would love to see him sign a four year deal at a reasonable price. 4-12 maybe, I think if you see us sign a BIG UGLY for nose tackle it will set us up to run quite a few 3-4 plays....

The one thing I will say is Biermann is not a LE, where he has played the majority of his snaps here.

Hopefully Nolan gets the most out of him and puts him in positions to make plays.

He was amazing in the preseason, but fell off. I think he will become a great player this year. Abe has a lot of faith in him.

Quit insulting his wife, that's his personal life. These guys are just people, some of you act like they owe you something.

Everyone expects players to work hard, but at the end of the day it's just a game.

I think this news serves 2 purposes. We have Ray, Sid, Matthews and Kroy (once the ink dries) signed. We have a meeting set with Abe, and if he sticks to his 12MM/year take on his contract, this could be the pre-cursor to watching 55 hit 75N on his way outta Atlanta.

Good to hear. He hasn't been productive in the past few seasons but I attest that to him being far more suited to be a 3-4 OLB than 4-3 DE, something I'm sure Nolan is aware of. If Nolan can bring out the potential in Biermann and Sidbury then I don't think we have to really worry about the pass rush.

Hahahahahaha thats funny not having to worry about the pass rush WOW..Really you and many others are just heaping the praise on Mike Nolan and hoping he doesn't fall here as I fear if he doessn't get the required performance out of these guys I wonder how many will have the knives out next off season.

I just hope the FO give Mike Nolan a couple of throughbreds instead of all the middle tier guys we have now I think our secondary will be ok aswell as the Lbers but upfront man i just don't see a guy who stands out for me.

Biermann is cheap insurance he's not a cure for anything in my eyes its a deal that needed to be done and at the right price.

To me it's more of a hint that they're shifting to a 3-4 base defense despite saying they'll stick with the 4-3 (smoke screen). Biermann has not be effective out of the 4-3 but he is athletic enough with a high motor to be very good as a 3-4 OLB. What they really need to do now is to retain Lofton so he and Weatherspoon can terrorize offenses in the middle and pick up a space eater like Soliai once free agency opens up. Suddenly the Falcons have one of the more solid front sevens in the league for one of the more dynamic defensive minds in Nolan.

BIOGRAPHY: Two-year starter awarded All-America and all-Conference honors after his junior and senior campaigns. Recipient of the Buck Buchanan Award last year, given to the top defensive player in Division IAA. Senior totals included 70/18.5/16 after 78/14/11 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Disruptive small school pass rusher that projects to outside linebacker in the NFL. Plays with excellent pad level, gets leverage on opponents and quickly changes direction or immediately alters his angle of attack. Gets a good amount of momentum going up field, shows speed off the edge and fast pursuing from the backside. Plays with excellent balance, body control and rarely off his feet. Displays an array of moves working to get off blocks and chases all over the field to make positive plays. Instinctive and quickly locates the ball or diagnoses the action.

NEGATIVES: Can be a liability in run defense and exploited by large blockers. Stiff peddling in reverse and does not get depth dropping into coverage.

ANALYSIS: Bierman has been a pass rushing terror the past two seasons and offers possibilities as a rush linebacker in a 34 alignment. He must quickly accustom himself to the speed at the next level and learn to make plays in reverse yet could see action during his rookie season as a pass rush specialist.

Analysis

Positives: Instinctive. ... Good initial quickness off the snap to gain an advantage on the offensive tackle, and shows the balance to dip his shoulder and generate speed around the edge. ... Uses his hands well to slap away the pass blocker's initial attempts to block him. ... High-effort player who pursues with passion. ... Flashes some explosiveness as a hitter, forcing five fumbles as a senior.

Negatives: Classic 'tweener prospect who some feel is a product of Montana's system. ... Good straight-line speed, but doesn't play up to this speed, especially when asked to move backward. ... Good use of hands to slap away the initial attempt of pass blockers, but lacks the strength to hold up once truly engaged. ... Instinctive, high-effort player who may be maxed out.

Thats Biermann write up...

Its a good low risk high reward thing with Biermann signing if we can get him for 4 years around 3 mil... He could be more effective in a more creative scheme

The only reason you would need a big ugly is if you will play some 3-4 on run downs.... I read something that said Paul Soliai played just 40% of the snaps... So basically he didnt play on passing downs.... I just cant see us paying a guy 8+ mil to play 40% or less of the time (maybe even less since our main base D will be a 4-3 scheme) ...

Unless you get a freak of nature.... I dont see us getting a huge guy unless we get a guy very very cheap

agree about not spending $8 mil/season on a big ugly - but make no mistake - I think the Falcons will target a monster-sized D-Tackle in free agency or draft - Bierrman signing actually hints at it if you ask me. I don't think Falcons are going to pay Kroy Bierrman $3-$4million/yr to be a rush-end. He's going to be a hybrid 3-4 OLB-type. If he is, that means Falcons need a "BIG UGLY" and there is not one on the team right now.

Beerman gonna explode for 10 sacks in 2012, pay for Kim's mansion, and become an all pro DE for us.... ..so let it be written, so let it be done ........

Psychic I hope your right we need a space eater I agree.

I hope that transition to a 34 like you are suggesting does prove to be a difference and I don't see Lofton as a Falcon either to be honest I think ever since the talking to Crowder business 3 weeks ago I think that spelt the end of Loftons reign as a Falcon.

R u moudin me? U tink dat jus cuz i aint no vocab hi skool teecher dat im stuped or sumtin? Git reel bra, i came here 4 da same reeson u did, 2 talk bout da falecons and enjoi da cumpany bout footeball. #shutup

Bro I'm old School I read english I don't understand your TXTing language hence my comment.

Also guys were'nt the Falcons linked with the Jets NT Sione Pouha I'm sure I saw it somewhere we spoke to him.At the very least if they do bring in a NT I'd like someone like Aubrayo Franklin though a bit older I think he'd be a nice pick-up for us and could anchor both schemes but according to MS he thinks Peters can do the job but I'm very uneasy about that one though.
