Here is a really good breakdown of what Yadier Molina's new contract with the Cardinals could mean for McCann's next deal.

Braves have to pay McCann.  He's arguably your most popular player at this point.

I agree. He's the face of the franchise at this point.

They will and McCann will probably take atleast a little bit of a discount to stay here but he'll still get his big payday

Brian McCann's caught stealing percentage was only 22% last year but in 2010 it was at 30%. David Ross's caught stealing percentage was at 33% last year and 31% in 2010.

On Hot Stove tonight Brian McCann was qouted as saying "I take full responsibility for us not making the playoffs last year. If I do my job then the Cardinals don't make the playoffs. Just another example of McCann's leadership showing through. People for years always wanted to put Chipper Jones but Chipper was never had that kind of personality. Chipper was just "Look at me, do what I do, how I do it and you'll be fine" type of leader. Sure he probably had his share of lockeroom speeches but was never one to talk much publicly.  When the media wants to get real info they always go to Chipper but the most insight you get from the Braves is from McCann. The Braves players know who is the leader of this team and it's McCann. If there was ever a Braves played that deserved to be named team caption it's McCann. I don't think enough people realize how special Brian McCann is. In fact I know enough people don't appreciate McCann because he doesn't seek out national media attention. But Braves fans that don't appreciate McCann better wise up and appreciate what we've gotten the great joy to watch over the past 6 years and hopefully for many years to come.

With Chipper retiring & freeing up his dent in the payroll, McCann should get most of it. Too good of a hitter at catcher, too good at handling the pitching staff, too good of a leader/role model to let go.  With the present ownership i know big contracts are hard to come by I hope we do all we can to retain Mac. should be #1 priority imho.
